Just finally got a chance to make this. Tastes a bit like watermelon with pear overtones. Zero acid/tartness at all. Just kind of that melony sweetness to it. Very surprised by the flavor. Super refreshing. Definitely would be good with some Tequilla on a hot day.

Well you’ll have to go Southwest. I live in the Chihuahuan desert of Texas as well so it’s everywhere here. I also grew up in the Texas Hill Country which is pretty plentiful as well. I don’t bring the tunas in my house until the thorns are scorched off because they can get everywhere and the thorns are tiny which get all in your skin if not careful. We also make prickly pear margaritas, and martinis. Such a good way to quench your thirst in Texas!

I made Watermelon / Prickly Pear juice yesterday by Using my potent blender . Removed the seeds using a sieve and put the juice through it 3 times! In the end, No seeds remained. It’s Delicious! I don’t add ice to it; I just like to cool it in the fridge. Also I like to make smoothies with it by adding to other fruits such as Mango and Dragon Fruit. 😋😋

I have fermented the prickly pears with the honey when making a mead. Outstanding results! The first time I only diced the prickly pears (after peeling), the second time I mashed the prickly pears like he did. Both ways worked fine. I used 18 (12 orange ones and 6 purple ones) prickly pears in a 5 gallon batch of mead, beautiful pink color and a wonderful flavor. My preference when making mead... I only steep the honey at 180F for 20 minutes, never boil the honey since it boils off some of the most delicate aroma and flavors. Then add fruit and ferment.

I actually tried to make wine with it. Tasted awful. I was making bread. So, I dumped it into the four. Awesome! It tasted just like gingerbread..

ive noticed with fruits, taste varies depending on location and how much water theyve had. during a good monsoon season, they taste sweet and juicy, during times of drought, theyre somewhat dry and bland. also if fruits arent fully ripe yet, they not be as sweet.

In south africa it's common and popular to those who have access to it. Not a commercial product yet. The prickly pear syrup is heavenly poured over white sorbet ice cream. I ate it once long ago.....still stuck in my head.....THAT TASTE!
