I’ve been eating cactus my whole life and it wasn’t until I was older that I realized it was strange to other people. I love it grilled, in eggs, in pico de gallo, and in so many other dishes. If you get past the slimy part, it really is an amazing thing to try and is very important in Mexican food. If ever given the opportunity, try it!

This plant is wonderful! I was diagnosed with stomach ulcers and find out that side effects from medicine I was taken were worse and will affect my heart. Getting out of the hospital one day, I remembered my grandma told me once that nopal will refresh my stomach, so I went to a mexican place where they make fresh juice and ask for nopal and water shake. The attendant keeps on asking me " are you sure, that's all you want?" I was still filling sick and nauseated. After taking like half of the drink I felt great. I started making this drink at home every week for 3 months and got cured. One day my coworker told me she was filling seak from her stomach and I advised to drink cactus, she was Caucasian and did not what kind of cactus to buy and I show her on a website, that day I kept on reading more about cactus and find out that by eating it or on a drink raw will neutralize the stomach acidity and that is why I was feeling so good after drinking it. I try this drink with a person that had a bad hangover and it work. I am not lying this happened to me and I have been able to help a lot of my closed friends just with cactus drink.

Chop about 5 raw nopales into small squares and boil with half an onion and a small bunch of cilantro, add salt to taste. Once cooked drain and rinse a little. Chop the other half of the raw onion, about 3 small tomatoes, a bunch of cilantro, squeeze half of a lime and add salt to taste. Enjoy (please make sure it’s a clean nopal, no spikes)

Nopales are the absolute bomb 💣 any way you fix them,,,, my favorite way is picadillo style with tomato, onion, cilantro & a little bit of green chili. And that is good with anything, beef, pork, chicken, fish, shrimp & even just with some frijoles de la holla, wow I want some right now 😋😋

What an amazing video. This is one of the best videos I watched in your channel. My favorite 5 cuisines in the world are Mexican, Indian, Italian, Thai, and Israeli-Middle Eastern. You just reminded me which one moves to the number 1. What a fantastic video. Perhaps in your next trip to Mexico you can focus on the diversity of the food and tackle all seafood dishes? I am hooked to your channel. Thanks again for bringing happiness to the world! Cheers

Nice, I was looking for a hardy large producing and healthy plant to grow and eat. These grow wild in my region too, and I know of the fruit being edible but did not know about using the young tender pads of the cactus. Now that I see all the things you could make with it, I'm sold on growing a few. Thanks!

I have many memories of nopales, ever since I was child I can remember my grandma and mom taking the spines off with a knife and no gloves. They are pros. Happy Somnny gets to experience it finally. It’s actually very common in the US as well. Especially nopales salad or boiled/sautéed. It’s very healthy and good for you. I think it’s so funny when my childhood foods become a trendy. Avocados, nopales, tacos, squash blossoms, tamales, pozole, and more. You’ll never get tired of trying New Mexican foods, especially the older people or outside of major cities you’ll find lots of secrets and ancient foods. Can’t wait till the next video!

For my fellow Americans looking at this episode and remember that they sell the cactus in cans at the Mexican section in the supermarkets. Please don’t buy those. They just don’t taste the same. If you go to stores like save-way or sack n save, they sell fresh cactus. They’re so easy to cook you should just buy raw nopal

Americans from USA that cover food across the world never cover nopal aka cactus from Mexico. It’s so rare that we see cactus in USA even in Mexican restaurants but it’s huge part of authentic Mexican cuisine. Especially outside urban areas. It’s popularity even with urban dwellers and higher income brackets was covered very well on this video. My parents love it. I never got into it. Tuna the fruit of the cactus is one of my favorite things ever and so underrated. Delicious.
