Making Razor Sharp Blades From Glass Bottle Bottoms... Is Glass, Flint, or Chert in YOUR meat OK?

In yesterday's video I broke the bottoms out of some glass bottles by forcefully striking them on their tops (Link below). Today, I wanted to show you the consistent way that these bottles are breaking... Fascinating!
Also, with those glass bottoms, I use the Bipolar Percussion technique to flake off some very small but very sharp blades. These little blades were no joke! They easily sliced right through some fabric during testing. But what about butchering meat with them also?
When you think about the flint and chert blades that the Indians were using... there must have been broken edges and particles of stone that lodged in the meat they were butchering. Hmmm?
I'd love to try my little glass blades out on dressing game or fish, but I don't like the idea of eating particles of glass. LOL! What's your viewpoint on this? Harmful? Dangerous? They can be washed off? Please Comment... And as always, Please SUBSCRIBE at the end of the video. Thanks!

put a nail point down swirl it around it will etch the inner circumference of the bottom and if the surface tension is just above the top when you hit it no air to compress so all the pressure goes down dad used to make funnels like that

I'm a napper and it is fun to make flint and glass cutting tools. Along with safety glasses be sure to position yourself so that the breeze is passing your body from the side or front (never from your back) so that any dust will not swirl in front of your face where you are likely to breath it. Good video and helpful to know for people who may become stranded and wished that they had watched all your videos closer.

I didn't realize that glass was going to produce so much powder/dust.

I use a large lagbolt, stick it in the bottle, thumb over the opening, and shake up and down. The bottom pops out nice and clean. 🤙

Once I was miles down a river and didn't have my filet knife. I found a small piece of glass along the river because man has its footprint everywhere. And I knapped it with a rock and was able to filet and gut my fish.

Pretty cool stuff, i have found that a piece of glass is better then a metal striker or knife blade to use on a ferro rod, in my opinion the piece of glass creates many more sparks..great video btw

I struggle with glass to scrap sparks off a ferro rod. The glass edge just crumbles and breaks off.

As a new sub and fellow SC resident I am glad I found your channel. Have you looked at cordage from plastic bottles? I am working on making a Mongolian horse bow using some pine sap glue and cordage recycled and maybe sinew. Anyway enjoyed your channel so far.

Never seen someone hit it straight on the edge to produce sharp blades. Normally, they hit it an angle..........

Their way is probably more efficient. I, a non napper, got good shards but powderized a lot of glass in the process.

Interesting way to make blades, l guess you could do same on stone? If a guy was skinning squirrel for instance and didn't cut down into the meat l think a guy would be safe. Could always rinse off in the water too.

You know, you're right! Cut off the extremities at the joints and open the gut cavity with the glass blade or a sharp stick for that matter.

If I were in a survival situation and a bottle would give me a sharp edge to process food with, you bet I’d use it. However that would only be if I didn’t have a knife.

Intressting film , but you should not spread sharp glass on the ground , the animal can get hurt when they step on it .

A person should only be butchering meat with chards of glass in a survival type situation.
