In this video I explain what platforms are and how to strike them with extremely predictable results. This is percussion flintknapping, with keokuk chert and toilet porcelain.

Finally, someone explained this in a way that I now have a much better understanding of what a platform is. Thanks Greg.

best understanding of flintknapping Ive come across yet. As an artifact hunter you get curious about how knapping is done. This gives me a great idea of how certain pieces were made and how amazing many natives were at knapping.

This is great info! Too many videos on YT talking about platforms, nobody dares to make actual predictions on what would happen when strinking, but you. Watching you mark the spot to hit and the flake that will come off is super interesting and informative. Of course there's more to it, I strongly believe YT videos are not substitute for experience, but still, super useful. Like many others said, "finally"!
