I live not so far from Vermont and we also had flooding in my basement during that time! Not a fun cleanup! My home studio project had to be put on indefinite hiatus… but happy to learn that everyone is safe on your side!

holy shit dude! After dealing with 2 floods in my studio when it was back in Los Angeles, I feel you. I had standing water, you all have a river. The feeling that morning of opening up my studio's front door and taking a step in and hearing squish under my foot before I turned on the lights...

Keep on trucking brother, you've no idea how much I appreciate the quality and attention to detail of 'Making Records'!

Eric, when you rebuild the stream bank, be sure to place many fast growing plants, like willows, (if they will grow in that climate) on the wet side to help protect that stream bank.

Hi Eric, That looks terrifying! I'm glad you're doing well and that the barn stayed dry. I don't know your exact situation, but maybe you could consider the Dutch approach to future-proofing your land? In the Netherlands, the trend has been to not only build higher dikes but also to create spaces where water can safely go. Since our country is a river delta, we've had to prepare for large amounts of water at once. We've deepened and widened river beds, created substantial floodplains, and built alternative channels to manage sudden water surges. You might have already thought about this, but I wanted to mention it. Good luck!

Super sorry you had to go through that, and will probably be dealing with this episode for a long time. Sure is a beautiful place of nature though. Thank goodness the barn was spared.
@breakburrito4 ай бұрын
Eric, the creek will overtop that bank again after rebuilding it, so you may want to consider building a bypass like was done in downtown Napa. Basically just dig out a channel following the course the creek took across your meadow and then perhaps install a ~6' diameter culvert pipe under the gravel road leading to the barn. Would not be cheap, but this could potentially alleviate the overtopping around the main house while keeping your gravel road from washing out completely.

Yes! we're talking about regrading things so the river can have a path back to itself before the bridge/road.

You maybe should make some contention wall outside the studio at least 2 feet thick from 4 feet deap into the ground up to 3 to 4 feet high above the ground all around the studio and home too. Nature is very unpredictable and very strong. The state should help to secure your property. This is why you pay taxes. They should certainly make riverbank maintenance. Those trees looked like they were allready fallen on the ground from long before the flooding trees without leaves and that black... It doesn't happen in one night. They should probably manage the riverbank so that trees don't cut the river flow. I hope you find the knowledgable peoples to help you with that. Are there maybe insurance consortium fund for such kind of disasters? I hope these thought help. All the best and keep on with the good content Eric.

Incidentally, I just finished watching your last Q&A video, your discussion around your ‘ideal’ control room design reminded me of BOP studio in South Africa - Sound on Sound have an article and some video on here about the design of the place if you aren’t familiar with it already. Yikes. Welcome to climate change and rural living. My family has a property near the Oregon coast with a small creek flowing through it, last winter the creek turned into a huge raging river almost flooding our neighbors house. The erosion from the river is becoming extreme and we will need to rebuild the creeks bank and a retaining walls. I feel you and will be doing similar work on our property soon.

If its an annual happening, you could dig a river crossing your land and a lil bridge to cross it, so it won't (nearly)flush your house or studio every year😁 Well, that was easier said that done haha.. Good luck anyway

off topic eric but i gotta ask, for tracking drums do you prefer the class AB neve preamps like a 1081 over the class A 1073,1084 etc..? a lot of people say they're snappier. like if you had both in a rack and you're doing a full setup for rock what would you choose? 3EB sounds amazing to this day and read you used 1081s
