Super sorry you had to go through that, and will probably be dealing with this episode for a long time. Sure is a beautiful place of nature though. Thank goodness the barn was spared.

I am really glad that you, your family, dog and studio made it through this.

You maybe should make some contention wall outside the studio at least 2 feet thick from 4 feet deap into the ground up to 3 to 4 feet high above the ground all around the studio and home too. Nature is very unpredictable and very strong. The state should help to secure your property. This is why you pay taxes. They should certainly make riverbank maintenance. Those trees looked like they were allready fallen on the ground from long before the flooding trees without leaves and that black... It doesn't happen in one night. They should probably manage the riverbank so that trees don't cut the river flow. I hope you find the knowledgable peoples to help you with that. Are there maybe insurance consortium fund for such kind of disasters? I hope these thought help. All the best and keep on with the good content Eric.

off topic eric but i gotta ask, for tracking drums do you prefer the class AB neve preamps like a 1081 over the class A 1073,1084 etc..? a lot of people say they're snappier. like if you had both in a rack and you're doing a full setup for rock what would you choose? 3EB sounds amazing to this day and read you used 1081s

So, I assume the barn must sit on higher ground than the house?
@mrwev2 күн бұрын
Yes by alittle bit and it is much further from the river then the house is, thankfully :)
@studiodude12 күн бұрын
Might need to do some re-grading and some new drainage trenches on the property.
@mrwev2 күн бұрын
Yes! we are talking about all of that stuff. Definitely going to dredge out the swail behind the barn and we might create a new path back to the river before the bridge for when it jumps the bank again.
@lahattec2 күн бұрын
Eric, when you rebuild the stream bank, be sure to place many fast growing plants, like willows, (if they will grow in that climate) on the wet side to help protect that stream bank.

Totaally!! Everyone is saying that is the best way to stabilize the soil.

yeah sorry about that. I took those videos specifically for a social media post Grace needed to do and then ended up using them for my post. Vertical is so awkward on youtube haha!

holy shit dude! After dealing with 2 floods in my studio when it was back in Los Angeles, I feel you. I had standing water, you all have a river. The feeling that morning of opening up my studio's front door and taking a step in and hearing squish under my foot before I turned on the lights...

So thankful max and family are safe. Seems like no major damage to house and studio. Nice job Sagan!!
@breakburrito3 күн бұрын
Eric, the creek will overtop that bank again after rebuilding it, so you may want to consider building a bypass like was done in downtown Napa. Basically just dig out a channel following the course the creek took across your meadow and then perhaps install a ~6' diameter culvert pipe under the gravel road leading to the barn. Would not be cheap, but this could potentially alleviate the overtopping around the main house while keeping your gravel road from washing out completely.
@mrwev2 күн бұрын
Yes! we're talking about regrading things so the river can have a path back to itself before the bridge/road.

Wow, Glad to hear that everyone and everything is okay there! Hope your friend with a digger can flood proof the studio a bit too. Incidentally, I just finished watching your last Q&A video, your discussion around your ‘ideal’ control room design reminded me of BOP studio in South Africa - Sound on Sound have an article and some video on here about the design of the place if you aren’t familiar with it already. Amazing stuff.
