Great video. Short and to the point. I like the idea of normalizing that not every project has to be a completely original beautiful show piece.

Hey Brian, The eternal battle of the artisan! I see the balance being entirely in the mind of the person creating the functional art. That said, I know way too well, the pendulum between getting things done and the desire to make pieces which are both challenging and satisfying will sway back and forth continually. I guess, to an extent, that is what makes makers do what they do. Good video, and as you can tell it made me stop and think. Back to riding the pendulum! Regards James One Handed Maker - Australia

Straight talent! Wish I had a skill and passion like this to pay rent!

Next video could be a short one making those cool drawer pulls or some other versions you're liking ATM.

Brian, check your history books - Michaelangelo, DaVinci, and many more you'll recognize literally took commissions they hated to 'pay the rent.' I'd look at it as practice time to keep the skills sharp. And hey, rent.

May be "just" rent but it sure looked of very high quality. Nicely done.

One of your best videos. ( 🤔probably cusing me out right now) Every piece can’t be a winner because then that would mean thats actually your average. We need the bad, average, boring times to uplift the exceptional times.

That is a good way to look at it.

I build whatever comes my way, doesn't matter, I have kids to feed so I do whatever I have to , some projects are great and some are whatever, it all pays the bills, whats sad is I make more money building counter tops than furniture, but I would never want to only do counter tops

Everyone wants to be an artist but unfortunately most starve. It's okay to make rent. Even most of the time.
