Hey Rick, In terms of stairs, I'm 63 years old and do most of my gigs in NYC. Stairs are common and I have a rack similar to yours. I sometimes have to carry it up the stairs. It's just part of what we do. i don't know who was complaining about that bring an assistant with you. Love what you did with your rack though. Keep up the good work and the great videos.

Great video! Years ago I worked as stage crew and had an idea to make cases for portable workshop like the cases the music gear gets hauled in while searching for videos on the gear crates I landed here (thankfully, the tables would work great for feeding and exiting boards on portable table saw, router table, etc.). Thanks for the ideas!

RE: Table latches making it necessary to put the rack lids on "upside down" I roadie for a band and we had the same issue. The answer was to add a 3/4" plywood baord between the rack and the wheel (caster) board. It lifted the rack high enough to allow the lid to be put on "right side up." That will make the top of your closed rack a lot smoother. Kudos for "bending Reality" to accommodate your needs.

Fantastic! I do sound for a band and am having something just like this custom built. One side will be for the audio and the other for the lighting and several drawers will house all the things that are currently split between a couple pelican cases and cable trunk. No more asking for tables or dragging a separate plastic table out (last one got left at gig). Great video!

Most of my case building supplies come from TCH Hardware (locations in the US & Canada). As for going up stairs... two words, Appliance Dolly. They have dual rubber tank tracks built in that makes rolling up each step much easier. After seeing a furniture company using one to carry a fridge up a flight of stairs, I was sold on it. I've even seen some versions that can be converted into a 4 wheel dolly (kinda like a Rock-N-Roller), but those can be expensive.

Rack drawers and doors add way too much weight also. Wtg with the bins!! 👍🏻 Awesome tables!!! Solution 1-provides a place to put bulky space robbing lids that constantly slide all over the place. Solution 2-always need a place for cards, pens, shirts and merchandise Solution 3-unload gear bins on surface without kneeling on nasty sticky concrete club floor! Etc etc etc.

Thanks for the video Rick. Awesome Job on your build. If it serves your purpose then all is well. Very clean set up as well as description of parts you used. I am looking at doing something like this but on a smaller scale. I currently have a lot of separate pieces that I would like to combine in one single unit to minimize my work area. I currently have a 6 foot table with a DJ booth that fits in a bag. It’s all made from cloth and PVC. Love your channel as it brings so many ideas to the table. Keep up the good work. DJ Mike 🎤

THANKS!! RICK FOR EVERYTHING YOU BRING US.. YOU'RE A GENIUS!! ONE THING YOU SHOULD TRY.... I USED TO DJ AT A SKATING RINK YEARS AGO.. AND MY BUDDY BUILT ONE OF THOSE THINGS FOR ME BUT HE ADDED AN ADJUSTABLE SCREEN OR MONITOR SO I COULD USE IT AS MY MAIN MONITOR... WE HAD AN OLD DESK TOP TOWER HIDDEN IN THE RACK AND THE SCREEN HOOK UP TO IT USING THE FIRST OR ONE OF THE FIRST DJ SOFTWARE... NAMED " CARROT INNOVATIONS " (VTT).. AND WE WERE THE KINGS OF THE ROAD.. GOOD TIMES!! BUT YOU SHOULD TRY IT SPECIALLY NOW DAYS WITH THE TOUCH SCREEN MONITORS... YOU WON'T REGRET IT...... KEEP HAVING FUN THANKS!!

Those legs needed some leveling feet to be able to adjust that last inch where it is needed. thanks for a great video. I had been trying to figure out what hardware I would need to make flight case desks. I do emergency communications as a HAM radio operator, and always wanted to set up a portable station that I could just arrive on site and quickly have everything set up. The pelican desks are obscenely expensive.

Haha.. I wondered why you were going to this much trouble. Makes sense now. I say that because a few years ago, I had a roadcase basically the same as that. The differences were that mine had a fold up mixer rack up top, and both the covers already had hardware built on to use them as tables. (Just the mounts were about half way down the case which use to bug me.) But cool to see someone build their own nonetheless.

Hey! Pretty neat. If you wanted to line up your front and back / left and right, you put the tabs on the lid for one side, mark where the collar goes, then do the same for the opposite side. Then you do the tabs for the second lid. Nice job.

Rig looks good. Very good thinking. One suggestion. I noticed on your analog mixer that the channels coming from your Dj controler are panned to the center. I'm not sure if you keep it this way or not but you should pan the left channel to the left and the right channel to the right. This way you keep your true stereo image and don't lose any panning effect the track may have. Otherwise if you close your right channel the right speaker will stay on because the left channel is still feeding it. Not sure if you knew that or not. Most Dj's in my area have no clue about audio at all. It's really sad.

@TheMigrain 4 жыл бұрын
A second thought. If you run your controller in XLR to that mixer you will be using the mic preamps when it isn't needed. TRS into that mixer to carry a line input unless I am mistaken. if I am wrong someone drop some knowledge on me.
@DJRickWeb

The first 4 inputs are mic/line switchable on the Yamaha mg12. There is a switch to jump between the two.

Aware. It was more to keep xlr through the chain. And the board already has more inputs then I need. So why not
@TheMigrain
@TheMigrain 4 жыл бұрын
@@DJRickWeb so the switch you are talking about is the "pad" switch I think? that is for hot input signals be it either line or mic. but from what i read in the manual XLR inputs go to mic preamps and TRS connections through the combo jack by pass the preamp for line level. on page 16 of the PDF manual here (will not let me copy and paste the text from pdf /shrug) de.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/4/331024/mg20xu_en_om_e0.pdf. (edit was repeating myself)
@TheMigrain
@TheMigrain 4 жыл бұрын
This is the reason I am not a fan of XLR line level. causes issues when dealing with things like mixers with XLR outs and devices that link phantom power across inputs. 48v sent to mixer over XLR will burn the mixer or controller. but if you use XLR to trs in you bypass phantom power and preamps. (edit) reading the manual cause i am board and have no life. on that mixer phantom power is for all inputs so any XLR cable plugged into that mixer when phantom power is enabled will get 48V maybe making a bad day for a controller / mixer

theirs no point buying a big rack case if you don’t have enough equipment to fit it in. You should buy a smaller rack case

There is no such thing as a no no. It's a road case you can do whatever you want with it

Even if it isnt full it gets it to table height. And it has future expansion if needed. But anything smaller would be uncomfortable to mix at. Nice build. If I didnt get the krane amg 750 I would go this route. Probably going to do a 10u rack case. I have the Yamaha 10 channel mixer. I got the dbx rack also, audio technica 3000 series mic. A furman conditioner, when I get the rack probably get a 2u drawer for the mic and a slide out like yours for the mixer. I wonder why all my stuff is starting to look close to yours. New in the game and figured i could have some fun and build a set up. I have my own wedding coming up in october so I figured I would get all the gear and have it because I'm a tech geek. Running 2 ev elx200 10p on top of 2 elx 200 12sp subs. And ceremony set up 2 jbl eon one comps. Working on lighting now just got the chauvet quad wash usb t bar I will build from that. For real thanks for all the videos. Definitely got me into a new hobby the past 2 months.

I don’t like when people put cables in their big rack case🤮 rack case are for equipment , not for cables!
