Some of my old layouts will have to be scrapped to make room on the shelves for the Gauge O guild Virtual exhibition layout. #microlayout #modelrailway #ogauge #gog #modeltrain #gaugeoguild

After watching your planning video for the East Lancashire railway, I have decided to build a small O gauge layout based on the village in Buckinghamshire England where I lived as a child. The village is Weston Turville and the line would run from Stoke Mandeville station. The line would serve the station and a private siding for a fictious electrical engineering company run by my late father and his friend. This makes the layout have personal appeal to me. The first layout plan is 16 feet by 2 feet including the fiddle yard. I have revised the plan down to 14 feet by 2 feet. I am not sure how much smaller I can get the layout and still have enough operating interest. The engine must have space to run around the train. A carriage is 18 inches long, a van 10 inches and the engine is 12 inches. Thank you for your inspirational videos.

Thanks for the comment. Yes “operating interest” is the key phrase and it means different things to different people.

All layouts have a life-cycle, so no tears for those that have served their purpose. That said, when can we come to your place to dumpster dive? 😉🤣

So the trick is to reduce the size but keep the interest. I wish I knew how to do that.

Are you going to salvage that APA box, or is it pretty much shot?
