A Poem on nothingness by great polish poet Czeslaw Milosz. Let us not talk philosophy, drop it, Jeanne. So many words, so much paper, who can stand it. I told you the truth about my distancing myself. I've stopped worrying about my misshapen life. It was no better and no worse than the usual human tragedies. For over thirty years we have been waging our dispute As we do now, on the island under the skies of the tropics. We flee a downpour, in an instant the bright sun again, And I grow dumb, dazzled by the emerald essence of the leaves. We submerge in foam at the line of the surf, We swim far, to where the horizon is a tangle of banana bush, With little windmills of palms. And I am under accusation: That I am not up to my oeuvre, That I do not demand enough from myself, As I could have learned from Karl Jaspers, That my scorn for the opinions of this age grows slack. I roll on a wave and look at white clouds. You are right, Jeanne, I don't know how to care about the salvation of my soul. Some are called, others manage as well as they can. I accept it, what has befallen me is just. I don't pretend to the dignity of a wise old age. Untranslatable into words, I chose my home in what is now, In things of this world, which exist and, for that reason, delight us: Nakedness of women on the beach, coppery cones of their breasts, Hibiscus, alamanda, a red lily, devouring With my eyes, lips, tongue, the guava juice, the juice of la prune de Cythère, Rum with ice and syrup, lianas-orchids In a rain forest, where trees stand on the stilts of their roots. Death, you say, mine and yours, closer and closer, We suffered and this poor earth was not enough. The purple-black earth of vegetable gardens Will be here, either looked at or not. The sea, as today, will breathe from its depths. Growing small, I disappear in the immense, more and more free.

Very difficult to accept there is nobody to accept, indeed. But I am more optimistic about the numbers my friend. John 1, speaks of the children of God, born of not their own will, but his. Do not project fundamental views on God in that sentence, as I know you are not the type to do such things, and you will know it was written to the remnant. The remnant is larger than 36, my intuition yells within me. Not because I need to believe it, as to feel secure in a better tomorrow. There exists a peace beyond understanding even in the worst of hells. But when nothingness is "Achieved", Will still operates through a man, but without the distractions of there being anything in particular to achieve. Paul mentioned, that just as a will does not go into effect until someone dies, so it be with our own will. The death of a self image, lets the fullness of will proceed from a vessel. NoTHINGness will be rule of tomorrow, for all THINGS are passing away, even now. I agree with all your sentiments, but the realm of enlightenment is surely beyond words, but when words are used correctly, they point back to realities unspoken. The nothingness is calling many, and as this world becomes more unstable in its own ability to take itself as real, more will come to an accurate knowledge of what being is. At least these are my current feelings. Peace, and Blessings, from this side of forever my friend. I am truly enjoying your content, even if there may be disagreements at some level. But that is part of being, is it not?

Great video Sam! I have a question, how would one of these 36 enlightened individuals behave in the world? Do they even have opinions or jobs? Do they have friends? Do they just mope around all day with a blank expression on their face? Would they attempt to enlighten other people or would they see no point?

Most people choose psychosis. Many people choose narcissism. Very few choose nothingness. These are not the only 3 choices, though. I choose a solution you missed, Sam. I choose uncertainty. #mykindofchurch

Dear Sam, if Nothingness is all there's, then only the 3d solution is TRUE, and the other two do not apply in the absence of anyone or anything to apply to. If it is false, then indeed the 36 strong-minded can exist being someone PRETENDING being no-one and wearing the mask of nothingness to render themselves invisible to the dangers of existence. And we have enough pretense in the world to easily imagine there are 36 mln. of such "no-ones" on the face of the globe.

Excellent again but I'm a little confused...in some ways the narcissists existence is one of chaos and co-depemdancy and hive mind and yet they don't suffer? Sometimes they sound perfectly happy at others not so? Being unable to feel emotions is a curse or a blessing? The wounded child suffered but disappeared so there's no need to pity the narcissist as they don't exist?

If you are nothing, what is the pain that you feel, the sounds that you hear, the images that you see? What do you have to say about mind-body problem?
@ebdavies1004 жыл бұрын
I'm a bit confused about 'nothingness' (so I guess I'm not one of the 36 who can understand and accept it). I understand that there is (probably) no meaning in the universe (but what creatures manufacture) but how is there really nothing in the universe? Can any human being really understand nothing? When Vaknin says that the only thing we can be sure of is that we are thinking, that is accepting there is something (how does he know that it is the individual that is thinking?). So that's one something Vaknin seems to think there is when I am not sure. If you can answer all this then you're probably God.
@samvaknin4 жыл бұрын
Not Vaknin. Descartes. And I didn't understand most of what you wrote. I hope you did.

The point he was making is that in order for ‘you’ to accept nothingness the ‘you’ (identity) must exists first. Which is something. The ‘nothing’ he is referring to in the universe is that if you can wrap your head around how insignificant our entire solar system is - your existence, our existence, is pointless and practically didn’t even happen. Basically you are a self aware robot with no real purpose or importance to any thing. If that helps.

If narcissism is defined by a specific psychological process that happens in infanthood (according to you) and ONLY defined as such, what does it mean to "choose" narcissism in this discussion?

Dear Sam , I would really like to know your views on self style clinical psychologist Jordan B Peterson. He gives narcissistic vibes to me as he denounces atheism and existence of morality beyond the theist idea of morality. He claims to be a big player in psychology, but I find him full of shit. To be honest I find you far more intellectual than any psychologist I've ever come across here on KZbin , the way you explain and in depth you cover all the aspects of a topic is very thought provoking and interesting. I really love your work and definitely want you to go on one on one with that pseudo intellect Jordan B Peterson as Zizek did. I bet you'll reveal his shallow knowledge of the subject and his narcissism.
