Whats the liquids being used here? Some sort of acid? I'm new to metal craft and trying to learn
@coryowen4922
@coryowen4922 3 жыл бұрын
The first one he used (the yellowish one) is a flux. It helps the solder flow through the joints and protects the silver from fire scale. After all the links are soldered he dips it in pickle (the one in the crockpot) to eat away at the flux and also eat the copper that came up to the surface on the silver. Then he dipped it in patina to turn the silver black

@@coryowen4922 pickle solution is salt and vinegar?
@coryowen4922
@coryowen4922 3 жыл бұрын
@@morganbrasee5639 there’s some with pure citric acid that’s supposed to be safe since some candy is coated in it. But when it’s in boiling water the steam can inflame the respiratory system as I found out. There’s others that I don’t know what it’s made of. You can google pickling solution for jewelry. I use something called sparex. I have seen and heard people using vinegar but I feel like you have to leave the silver in vinegar for a longer period of time. But it should work. While also making sure the vinegar is hot. I’ve never tried it in vinegar but I know it’ll work
@coryowen4922
@coryowen4922 3 жыл бұрын
@@morganbrasee5639 when you heat up silver, it will bring copper to the surface and it will react with oxygen. This will turn the silver black. The pickle will eat the flux and the copper on the surface. When using pickle, you have to use copper tongs to get the silver out of pickle. Using steel tweezers will cause the copper rich solution to plate the silver, turning it pink. If it’s a freshly made pickle you have nothing to worry about. But if it’s old pickle make sure you use copper to get jewelry out of pickle. Introducing steel to copper rich pickle will cause a charge that plates the silver. I would scrap the whole project if this happens since it is hard to remove the copper from the surface after that mistake. In the video he uses tweezers that look like steel, which is a big no no. But using steel tweezers to dip the chain in patina helped it turn a darker black

❤ Love from india❤ I am jeweller and I have learned a lot from you and that's why I am giving you the status of Guru i.e. Gurus occupy a prominent place in Hinduism. Almost all the prominent deities of Hinduism act as gurus to reveal divine knowledge or teach specific skills. There is no other tradition in the world where gurus are treated with such respect. It is also true that in today's world, teachers in the academia do not enjoy as much respect or maintain the same ethical standards, while the spiritual teachers who propagate Hinduism or Hindu spirituality have to deal with a lot of public scrutiny and negative publicity. Thank u sir If I learn with your blessings, then I will earn and I will give you gurudakshina i.e. The guru taught many things to the students just like his own children. After the completion of the formal education, the students needed to repay the guru as a gratitude and respect. And finally this is known as the 'Guru Dakshina'. It involved a way of thanking the guru for whatever he would impart to his students

Your work is beautiful, and exquisite! Thank you for sharing your work and process with us. It's been many years since I made a chain... but watching you left me mesmerized. I watched 3 videos of you making chains tonight. Did you create or design that fixture that you draw the chain through? Or is and old or antique fixture? I've never seen anything like that. If you didn't design it, what is it called? - Thank you in advance. I don't know if I'll be able to reply to your message.
