Hope you've made more rings out of one tail. You've cut away a lot of cool wood.
@lukereed34155 жыл бұрын
Yes many rings can be but from one tail. You do have to work around stress cracks and chips on the top and bottom however.

I reckon you should sell them cos I'd by one for sure
Seriously man you should start selling these, you already have a social following on here who is eager to buy them so why not make a website or sell them on Etsy, then put your link in the description. For the labor part, hire a kid who's just old enough to start working (like someone in your neighborhood) and he'll love it, you give him a part time job and you pay him minimum wage. You can make a killing with these, no joke. You can even allow customers to pay extra for a personalized engraving. You would make some serious side cash while still keep you day job, trust me.

Hey Luke, great ring. I have a question about that spray You used. Is it shiny lacquer? Or some varnish? If it's lacquer, the wax can go through it? I'm a littlke confused about this. Best regards mate.
@lukereed34155 жыл бұрын
Yes it is a gloss lacquer. I use the wax and steel wool to polish and even out the finish. It dulls it slightly and makes it smooth to the touch. The wax is then buffed off. Thank you.

Any chance the spray protects the ring from harsh environments like water, moisture, etc?
@lukereed34153 жыл бұрын
It does provide protection to a limited degree. Some chemicals will dissolve the lacquer though. I have since switched to UV resin which is much harder and more durable, especially against water 👍. Thank you!
@Red_Souls3 жыл бұрын
@@lukereed3415 Ok thanks for the info. I saw this and loved it, it’s a good way to make something sentimental out of a old deck, any recommendations for any specific UV resin?
@lukereed34153 жыл бұрын
@@Red_Souls I've used alumniUV by alumilite, but I've heard other's work well. U will need a UV light to cure the resin. I bought the cheapest one on eBay, and that means I have to let it cure the resin for at least a couple of hours. If you're just looking to try this stuff out, spray lacquer is super cheap and easy and can easily be reapplied 👍
@Red_Souls3 жыл бұрын
@@lukereed3415 Yea I might go for the spray lacquer, cuz I’ll be wearing this everyday so I just wanna make sure that it lasts for a long time and won’t get damaged by the environment, plus sometimes especially what’s going on, i sanitize my metal rings, just to be extra cautious, but thanks for motivating me to do this, I’ve been trying to find ways to reuse a deck basically, also having your own skateboard as something you wear is sick. Keep it up with the good work 💯

I used to make these and was actually curious about how you guys did this as my dad and I brainstormed how it can be done most efficiently for us and we definitely have different methods, yours more refined. I use the initial tool that you used to make the hole to cut out the ring itself and I dremmel the inside to whichever size it needs to be depending for who and thin the outside to match the thickness they want. both achieved about the same result tho
