What I love: they are practical and relevant to everyday life. The larger 汉字 font size and the smaller pinyin on top is perfect. This helps me clearly recognise characters. Like how you delay bringing the English translation in. This helps my brain to think in Chinese first. You provide perfect context for each sentence. Your titles are accurate and so I know what I’m going to get when I open your lesson. Love how you follow HSK curriculum, but also provide other useful grammar and vocabulary outside of this. ..... what could be improved: hmmm, so difficult, I’m just thinking of more topics, but I know you will cover so many of these anyway, from a more technical perspective, and this is only an idea, what about a short snippets of actual conversation between 2 native speakers. You could break this down and help tune our ears to real life conversations that relate to your content. Again, just an idea. ... I know you will get over 1million followers, this is the best resource for learning Chinese on KZbin! 太感谢了老师🦀🦀💟💟🐨🐨

Wow 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 you've put this so nicely ❤️ This is a perfect description of her video content. I started following her, sometime, last week and this is why. Her channel is quickly becoming one of my my top Favorites, alongside: 1.)ChineseForUs- they go over the HSK 1 lessons, first without PINYIN, then with pinyin, then with English translation and after, they have a short stories with all of the Hsk1-2 vocab included. Then you're quizzed for your reading comprehension. This is truly, an effective method . They just added HSK3 content one or two months ago , after a 2-3 year hiatus. 2.) Lichao Chinese. He goes by the standardized book, mostly. He explains nearly every chinese character which helps, if students don't know the filler words, outside of the vocab list. And he's handsome, so for girls, this might help with being more attentive.😁😍 3.) Twin Cities Chinese- He basically goes over the grammar of certain words, like the difference between 看and 看见 or how to use 就. 4) one lemon chinese is great too And I like how, at the start of the coronavirus pandemic, they covered health terms and they have animated videos, to further illustrate the dialogue. This is great for super beginner Chinese students. And now, this lady. Yimin chinese will be added to my list of faves.

I agree, first Pinyin is essential for English learners. I need to see hanzi very large, at least 2-4x font size of latin letters because of the fine detail. I like in other videos sentences are broken down so each word or combination of words is shows to correlate with English. Without this deconstruction of Chinese sentences, there is often something incomprehensible and English learner will not understand. 🙏🙏🙏

Hey Yimin, I love your videos. I have thought about correcting Chinese people about this before but today I finally will. "Small talk" is always singular. It should be "Small talk IS so important" etc. Keep up the great work and you will have 100K in no time :D
@mountaintag
@mountaintag 4 жыл бұрын
Compared to English, the Chinese language has an advantage here, since the plural forms are always the same as the singular. Also, we're not sure if it should be small talk, or small-talk, or smalltalk. This kind of problem also does not arise in Chinese. Smalltalk is similar to chitchat, or chit-chat, or chit chat. According to my research, these words are commonly only used in the singular. But they can be used in the plural if the situation requires. For example, one might say "at each table, there were different smalltalks/chitchats going on". And that would sound okay to me. But maybe it would be better to say "at each table, there was a different smalltalk/chitchat going on".

I am a new subscriber, I feel a super friendly vibration on this channel, and the font sizes and Pinyin go together perfectly with the lessons. I would be lost without Pinyin. I think if China ever wants Mandarin to become an international language, 🤔then Pinyin must become more standardized even for native Mandarin speakers. I found that many native speakers are not even aware of Pinyin or tones, as they just know these things instinctively.

Great video but you should have somehow included 最近 in all translations (at 5:50 you included it tho). A more literal translation could be helpful cause I looked it up, paused the video a few times and couldnt remember its meaning in the 2nd sentence (at 5:40). Or you could add a translation for each character/word (using small font and below each word). What helps me a lot (especially in the HSK vocabulary vids) is if the same word shows up in 2 or more consecutive sentences. How you presented ting shuo also helped a lot.

We'll see what the teacher says, but I think one way to say it is: 信不信由你. This literally means: "Believe it or not, it's up to you." Another possibility is: 你敢相信吗? Literally, 敢 means "to dare", but in these kinds of expressions, it can mean "go so far as to". One such common usage is in the expression: 我不敢相信 which means "I just can't believe it".

we don't like parents in the west, is there any way to get around this "parents are the most important" issue? it comes up alot and i have a really hard time explaining why our parents just don't love us like eastern parents. Do you have any advice or phrases that might help? e: i fear my mother, i don't try to take care of her when shes old, i don't want to see her. If she finds out too much information about me she uses it to try to have my child taken away with false neglect/insanity/abuse/whatever claims.

I totally understand you James, now I live abroad, and with the time I realize it more and more that how people are so different on this issue, even in Mexico, where the people have strong sense of family, but it can't compare to the Chinese item 孝. yes in China the care between parents and child is mutual, the parents really would sacrifice a lot for their child. but sorry James , I didn't quite understand what help you need? can you make it more specific or in other words? it must be my English understanding problem

@@yiminchinese hmmm. I mean when i say like "my mother is a crazy lady, i don't talk to her" thats normal to me, happens all the time in canada. Nobody will even ask any questions about that sentence. just move on. If i say that to chinese it will mostly make them angry with me. They cannot understand that i respect family very much and i will do anything for my sons future but my parents did not do this for me. I was a child in the streets looking for food, how can i possibly respect my mother and help her for old age? it has nothing to do with my lack of values and chinese cannot see this, they don't care how bad my mother is, i should still help her (if i help her she will try to use the law to take my son away, much better to just stay away in real life) . My problem is that a simple chinese greeting like "how is your parents?" or "is your parents house in good condition?" will start a culture war that i simply cant explain. how do i just move past this question without offending so many chinese? (i cannot lie).

@@Tradinghonest Hi James, I totally understand you, and I m with you. the Yimin before may not , bus the Yimin now yes, and hugs for you 🧡 💛 💚to tell you a little story of mine. I had a boyfriend from a western country, and one of the problems we had was about this. He too had very bad relation with his mom, he told me how his mom treated him when he was little. sometimes he even sobbed when he talked about his mom, but I tried to convince him to forgive and treat his mom well(because of my own culture background), and I constantly put the opinion of my parents prior over his without noticing it. which I regret a lot till now. I wish I could have done it better , trying to understanding his feeling and being on his side. anyway, with my mindset now, I totally understand what you are saying, and I got to say, a lot sadness and tragedy in this world are caused by unqualified parents. to answer your question, with the people you don't know well, you just say 挺好的,or 还好,you don't need to go deep in the topic, and to your friends or people who really care about you, you can say that 我和她很少联系,then you can change the topic.

@@yiminchinese I am sorry to hear that :( i can very much see how that will not be nice if my girlfriend wanted me to say sorry to my mom and let her take my son away with false accusations. She really will do that if i try to say sorry (she tried twice already). I also very much see how you can have trouble understanding him, parents in china will never think about calling police to have children taken away(falsely), the police will laugh in their faces. Some things might happen the same like get drunk and burn the kitchen down three times, that might happen in china, i can forgive burning the kitchen down 100 times with no effort at all. I cannot forgive trying to hurt my son. Those phrases are too dishonest for me. It is very important to my pride as a man that i do not hide my troubled past, i must admit that it happened to properly move on. I understand that "How are your parents?" can be treated with a null answer (fine thanks) like "how are you?" but its hard for me for the same reason it was probably hard for you to ignore your culture and say "fine" to that question (how are you?). When we ask "how are your parents?" it means we really care and we want to know about your troubled past (bad parents are assumed here, not good).

Thank-you for another super-practical video; I like the two approaches you describe when adressing strangers. And I would like to suggest that what you mean by 'nosy' can be more accurately expressed by the words 'curious,' and 'curiosity.' When someone is curious, they show respectful curiosity and inquiry. When someone is nosy, this has the negative implication that (s)he wants to learn inappropriate gossip, or even intends to meddle with the person's affairs- as in the expression 'nosy parker.' Hope this helps :)

Muchas gracias por tus vídeos. Son muy útiles y su formato en tiempo y forma hacen fácil la comprensión de la lección y tus mensajes. Lo único que cambiaría un poco es que repitieras las explicaciones en chino, o incluso disminuir el uso del inglés para las explicaciones, es decir, no sólo los ejemplos en chino si no también tus comentarios hacerlos utilizando el idioma chino. By the way congratulations for your English, easy to follow and understand. 你辛苦了!

Thanks! Great stuff. But I would appreciate it even more, if you would slow down a little bit, just like you've done it for HSK 1. It's all new for everyone. A slower tempo of speech and pauses are very important. These gives us some time to snap and process the new information. I've tried to slow down the video, but it's not the same...

Great videos! Many thanks. Please, don’t change the speed of your speech. 😂 Going slower often sounds unnatural. The Chinese writing that comes along with your speech allows to understand.
