Can you make me that tool??? I don't have the material nor the skills to make those things... 😂. It would be a strange square. I make my square jumping the same Wai I make my round ones. Shape them on a square dowel and then cut them with my flush cutter. It's going much slower, as I have to turn my cutter all the time to have these ends flush. But I have my saw now. I never thought of sawing the jumprings... 😂 stupid me. 😂 But please make a video how to solder and what tools you need. I would be in your debt forever. And that's a long time. The moment you start to solder my heart breaks. As I don't know how... 😢 please... peleazzzzeeee. 😂 I I ask it wverytime perhaps you will do it... (or you block me 😂) You are a good artist. And ifcourse a square is always beautiful in combining a triangle... yeap beautiful.

That was an interesting way of making square jump rings but up to a certain thickness, wrapping the wire around a square mandrel (or even a triangular one if that's a preferred shape) would be easiest; HOWEVER, if you are using some really thick wire like 12ga or 10ga. that custom tool of yours could certainly come in handy. Unfortunately, not everyone has the skill or tools for customization. I'd be in power tool heaven with a quadrillion ideas if I had a shop loaded with all sorts of cool tools to work with.😂 Thanks for sharing your brilliant idea and skillset. I'll definitely keep this in mind! 👍🙂

you’re quite right Tammy, wrapping wire around a shaped mandrel is a standard technique that works well. I tried this idea because I wanted a load of small and repeatable links made from thick wire. I feel very lucky to have a double garage as a man cave to play in, being a bit of a tool aholic it’s full of cheap tools to my hearts desire to tinker away with until the early hours … cheers … Nick

Yes but no. I learned from my husband to look at my environment differently, how to use things we already have and found objects. Sometimes I wind up with new tools (like the clothes pin), sometimes with new design ideas…

hi Holly thanks for that, being a maker all my life producing tools and accessories comes naturally to me. however I can’t say the same for making videos, being rather camera shy having a presence in my videos isn’t easy. i’ve tried voiceovers that are also tediously difficult to be confident with. so I now stick to what I find possible hoping my voiceless videos are simple enough to follow … all the best … Nick

I like this method! It seems no matter what I do, mine never come out perfect. Cannot wait to try this. Question: How do you know what size square bar stock to use for a given interior circle? Lol, I'm 70. Don't make me try to remember high-school math!!!
@Nickscreativestuff
@Nickscreativestuff 2 жыл бұрын
hi Kathy, thanks for your comment. I also struggled with square links until I tried this. After making the mandrel out of 8mm square steel, lots of trial and error with copper wire and different sized round links got me to the perfect size when hammering the mandrel through them. No complicated maths needed, just a bit hit and miss to start with … good luck with it … all the best … Nick.

Clever way to cut the round jump rings using a laundry pin. This was a great demo, but not an 'easy' technique. Lots of steps. Why not use a square steel dowel for wrapping, hammer it more square on the dowel, then cut off? Saves a lot of steps. I'm thinking, use square wire too for a crisper look. I'm going to try it. Might work with thinner gauge wire under 18 AWG.
