Hello Crafter,
today I finally made my first handkerchiefs. Or are they called tissues? 😂 I am german so I am not quite sure.
But I am certain that after spending so much time and effort on those "handkerchiefs" I am more likely to actually use them on my journey to live more sustainably and create less waste.
You can totally get away with buying reusable tissues but what would be the fun in that? 😉
Instead, I decided to not just sew but embroider my handkerchiefs (I just can´t decide which word to use forgive me 🙈). There are so many lovely embroidery stitches. Back stitch, chain stitch, fly stitch, zig zag stitch, herringbone stitch, cross stitch.
It took me hours, but I learned something through it and they turned out so beautiful that I will simply have to use them to show them off 😂 (maybe, we will see).
So in this little DIY tutorial, I want to show you 6 easy embroidery stitches for the hems.
I hope you´ll enjoy the video and that you might embroider your own handkerchiefs/tissues/hankies/Taschentücher/whatever. 😊
Love Lexi

I am an old man now and I enjoy sewing with my old antique machines. There is a certain charm to hand stitching and you can see its hand made. I am going to give it a go and make my daughter in law some linen hand sewn hankies. Thank you.

Hello Peter, what a lovely idea 🥰 I hope your daughter in law likes it. I enjoy handsewing. Yes, it is not as fast as with the machine but as you said, there is a certain charm to it and you can do it whereever you want ☺️. I hope you have a lovely day! Love Lexi

Hello @Frougz, thank you so much for watching my video. I really hope your mum will like the gift, but it is such a lovely project and a very simple way to start with sewing and embroidering. I am also just a beginner and I would say the handkerchiefs turned out pretty good. 😋😊 Love Lexi

Thank you so much for posting this. I have a recycled organic cotton bed sheet that I think will work for handkerchiefs. I'm not sure about other English speaking places, but in the U.S., tissue usually means a disposable handkerchief. Also, we often use a nick-name, or shortened version of handkerchief, "hanky".

Thank you. I've always used hankies & now love to create new ones. Yours are really pretty with the different stitches. It's hard to choose which one I like best. Have a blessed day 🌈💚🙏💚🌈

What a wonderful video. I so appreciate that you showed how each stich looks on the revers side. That is exactly what I was needing. I am wanting to make a Handkerchief with two different fabrics so each side looks different. and then use an embroidery stich that would look the same on both sides. Thankyou so much. I will go with the Cross stich and Zigzag stitching.

@@caughtlittlediydreams Thank you for responding, well my first attempt was not all that great, but it is now one of my favorite. I have been practising and getting better and have now made many Handkerchiefs and even sent a bunch to family members as gifts. Thank you.
