It's an Eluktronics gaming laptop. It's not super optimized for audio, but it does a pretty good job running Maschine with ASIO drivers

Sounds pretty good. The only thing I’d comment about is that your chords sound very closed. What I mean is their voicing sounds very close together and don’t really feel like they lead from one to the other very smoothly, so they are missing the synthwave lushness. Maybe incorporate some inversions and open voicings to add some movement and voice leading.

Thanks! I'd Maschine over takt, because both of those Elektron boxes are a bit harsher sounding. Although to be fair, my actual #1 pick for synthwave is the Roland MC-101.

@@GabeMillerMusic Or MC-707 for even more convenience? ;) Really thinking about ditching the Syntakt for a 707... Liked the MC-101 a lot sound wise, but it was too small. Haven't used my MPC One since I got an SP-404 MK2. Now I can imagine that MC-707 and SP-404 will cover all my needs for Boom-Bap and Synthwave.

Rookie question. Are the sounds in the DAW or the Maschine?

They're in the Maschine software. The Maschine itself is a controller. It doesn't make sounds itself, it controls the software that was made to work with it. (Or other software, for that matter) There is a standalone Maschine, the Maschine+, which works by itself without a computer, but the device in the video is just the original Maschine MK3.

To be honest, a lot of them work pretty similarly, so once I learned a few inside and out, learning at the basics of new gadgets hasn't been too difficult. And the favorites change from time to time, but long term it's probably the Maschine, MPC, MC-101, and Circuit Tracks

So started with the Maschine Mikro and Bitwig. I just got the MV-1 a few weeks ago. So since you know the MC-1, let me ask you a couple of questions. I learned that to send midi to my daw each track had to have TXUSB MIDI and TX Note on. My problem is sync. Under system I turned on SyncOutUSB and RX Start Stop. I think Sync Src should be INT, but I'm not sure. Setting up Bitwig was easy. I'd appreciate any advise.
