Making The Best Better! MN Models MN99 D90 ESC and Receiver Upgrade.

Hello and welcome to the channel!
In this video we are taking a look at fitting a full electronics upgrade to my MN Models MN-99 (D99) Land Rover Defender RC truck. The parts we are using are a cheap little 20A esc and a Turbo Racing 91803G-VT transmitter kit. This is the ready to run has proportional steering and a big 260 motor. Very impressed with this little rig and for the money it has a lot going for it.

There alot better with a WPL two speed in them. It makes a big difference having a bit of weight lower down to. 👍👍

Ya them magnatizer/demagnatizers are vital to working on small models. The one I have is about 12 years old. Doesn't look anything like the one you have but does the same thing. For anyone on a very tight budget you can use a strong magnet to magnatize/demagnatize your drivers. Go in one direction to magnatize about 8-10 times and the opposite direction twice the times to demagnatize.

Just with that ESC upgrade you get more power and if you got space for a 40 amp ESC you get even more power, that remote is cheap and good, but if you ever find a way to use the 3rd channel on it please make a video I can only use it for a horn but not for 2 speed gearbox servo or lights, nice rig

I'll have to have a look at that 3rd channel. I've only ever plugged lights into the aux port at the top. I may try a larger ESC on your advice!👍😆

Nice work and very well explained for the beginners 👍 Regarding the transmitter I think you would be better off getting a Flysky FS-GT3B for around €30. It has 3 channels, a 10-model memory and a nice big backlit digital display. The full range 6-channel receivers cost around €10 each. Even cheaper 3-channel receivers are also available but with reduced signal range, but still good enough for cars.The transmitter has other nice features such as end points and exponential controls. I am currently waiting for my MN-D99s to arrive. I will be upgrading the electronics with a 25A ESC and a 2435 3300kv brushless motor. I will be using the 7th model memory on my Flysky transmitter, so I still have 3 more models to go before I run out of memory space. Maybe I should set this as my limit and stop buying more rc's haha ☺️ Cheers and have a nice eve !

I'm wanting to upgrade my 4x4, once I've got all the parts that I'll need to do so. I want to upgrade the steering on mine, because it's rubbish not being propulsion steering. It's either on or off at the moment and I want to be able to control it better. 👍

I've got the same transmitter and receiver but I've got a dynamite esc. My car will steer but I've got no drive, any ideas? It isn't a faulty esc I've had it back in my twin hammers so it must be the receiver or transmitter.. it also keeps beeping at me... any help would be massively appreciated.

They do make a big improvement over the stock electronics,don't they? The only difference between us is that I went for the GoolRC TG-3 transmitter instead.

Yes you could swap it for any new ESC receiver and transmitter. 👍

Yes, but the 30a is about the same price so I'd go with that. Currently using it in a c14 running a single speed 370 setup 👍

Hi! So what are the gains of new electronics? Is it waterproof, I'm guesing the original board isn't waterproof or? What about the motor? Can you drive it through water? Also, how are your driveshafts doing? Mine when climbing very steep terrain start making noises as if the sprockets are skipping on one another, do you know maybe, are they plastic? The gains are more power and a bit more control. They are not waterproof you have to do that your self. At the moment I am still running the original driveshafts and they are holding up pretty well. Metal shafts are well worth the money though as the plastic ones do eventually go. 👍

Hi mate. Great video. I was hoping you may be able to give me some advice.. I blew the motor driver chip when connecting a 3000ma 7.2v battery and now I need to replace it. I see this as a good opportunity to upgrade a lot of parts. I’m thinking maybe the 370 motor, new 20a/30a esc (is that the same as the transmitter circuit board?) and possibly a 2speed gear box.. not sure what I’d need for that. Advise on what parts I need and where to get them would be greatly appreciated! Thanks mate

I have put a 30 amp ESC into my Mn99s, unfortunately it only worked for a few minutes. Now it wont work. It keeps flashing red light. Any idea why?

Yes I may be able to help. I've had the same problem which I traced back to a dodgy pin in the connector that plugs into the receiver. It worked loose at the truck just stopped. I just managed to push the wire back in with some small nosed pliers. Is the voltage of the battery within spec? 👍

@@topihitam3510 your 30amp ESC should be more capable of taking the standard voltage. I was thinking you may be running 3s or something higher. Definitely make sure all your connections are secure. 👍

Hello, Can you help me? 😊 My MN99S stock receiver was burned and has a code of YX-2.4G-150R-V. I bought online the same receiver with a code of YX-2.4G-150R-V1 it has an addition of 1 after the V. Will the stock transmitter work with my new receiver? I asked the seller and he said it will work. He even asked his supplier and they said that it is now the newest version (the one with V1) the factory produces and it will just work fine but I still find it skeptical if it will truly work because the code isn't same. I am worried if the stock transmitter will not pair to my new board I ordered.

Wow that's really strange. If it was reversed completely then I would say try swapping your motor wires round. But it seems you have only backwards on the transmitter. Is this a brand new RC? 👍

@@luisk5582 to get the best out of it yes. I think if you get a transmitter with a forth channel you can use that to activate the servo for the gears. 👍👍
