Making the Best of a Winter Day- Clifty Falls With My Boyfriend

Join me and my boyfriend, Smoke, who I met while hiking the Appalachian Trail as we brave the chilly weather and go out for a short hike and some campfire cooking at Clifty Falls State Park, Indiana. While the winter has the trees bare and we get chilled to the bone, we made the best of the day, even if it’s not as exciting as the Appalachian Trail itself!

You have it a good try…..what is good to make over a fire on a grill is grilled pizza sandwiches. butter the bread on the outside, put pizza sauce and toppings between the bread…and cook like grilled cheese. That was one of my kids favorite camping meals when they were little…except sometimes we cheated and used an electric grill if our campground had hookups…lol

The Toaks wood burning stove is light enough to actually carry backpacking. You collect twigs and burn them to boil your water. I own the small one.

Glad to see the two of you are still making adventures together. Really cool little trails even with the background noise. I saw that you put the screen down so it folded upwards. Would it be straight across putting the fold upwards. Really cool wood firebox and kettle. Definitely good for outings. Try the pizza again. Wait until you have coals and put the foil on the rack and build a dome like you mentioned. You might have better success. I pray that you two have a fantastic year. Happy New Year.

There are times in life when mostvAnything can be eaten. Having hiked the AT many years ago I saw it happen in shelters. In Vermont a hiker turned his pot of chili beans onto the shelter floor(nasty with who know what) but he ate it anyway. My wife and cooked macaroni and one night in Connecticut. It was dark and we were tired. I dumped what I thought was dehydrated cheese on the macaroni. I mistook it for Tang in a similar bag. It was awful but we ate it anyway. Fun video.

Clifty is such a cool place to have in Southern Indiana. I love to hike there all day and then go eat somewhere on Main st in Madison. It’s fun to camp there too. Looks like you visit a lot of the same places as me!

Go there often. I’m close to Charlestown. Those towers are like the 3rd highest in the world I think. Go down by the deep ravines and the cave. Definitely more rugged down there. Boneyard grill best place in town to eat. Happy New Year!

Clifty Falls is beautiful and you can hike from the Inn up to the North Gate (trails 1, 3,4,5,6,7), then back through 8, 2 - unless the creeks are overflowing, then bring extra socks or just go back through 1-7. It is quite strenuous - but the truth is that any of these trails is a beauty of its own. Thank you for this captivating channel and all your achievements! I am in Louisville too.

Love the fire pit we carry a small one to do cook outs on a day hike. Pine cones are like gas, ez fire starter, along with lighter wood. We hunt lighter wood it’s actually everywhere there are pine trees, it really works! Happy new year!

Shorts and T-shirt weather where I am. Closest I got to Clifty Falls State park was "My Old Kentucky Home State Park" on the old Trans-Am cycling route that I was following. Similar to walking the old AT such as Skyline drive. Did you walk any of the old AT sections or were they considered off trail, not part of the AT.

If want to do a small thru hike you could do the Tecumseh trail by Martinsville. It's 42 miles and even has Shelters.😊

I've fixed lasagna on the grill before, never tried pizza. Other than smoking up the baking dish the lasagna turned out good but that was on a grill with a lid, Good try on the pizza though.

The pizza looked good a lot of pepperoni!You need an oven, sometimes those parks have brick fireplaces, get some more bricks and maybe make an oven. Your portable fire pit is very nice!

Maddie, yes of course wash your items There are protective agents to most new cook and clothing things Smoke may have been able to do the pizza better if he had 2 grills; 1 on bottom & 1 on top. Ta Da
