One of the main reasons I have watched you is you really do show how difficult it is. You show it from a distance that most KZbinrs do but never the step by step moves that is necessary to overcome an obstacle and show how difficult it is. Most people show the bottom view and then the top view and say….”I did it”! But how is the question and you show that. As well as the highs and lows of the trail. I have really enjoyed watching you and the humor that you added to you journey. Always need humor. A smile a day is good and needed. Congratulations.

Maddie, the best, most immersive video footage of the approach to Katahdin I have ever seen. I don't think anybody has done a better job of this. Your sharing of the experience in such depth, with such honesty and clarity was amazing. I think you made the right decision to go to Katahdin to share the experience with your friends. Enjoy the last 80 miles of the trail with Smoke. Looking forward to the videos from that final section!

Im crying because it’s almost over. I’m (selfishly) glad you have a few more miles to go, and at least one more week of videos. Of course you will need a break, but I already can’t wait to see what you are doing next. You’re really inspiring me to think about a through hike. I have various disabilities that would make it impossible to do all in one year, but it might be fun to try it in stages. Idk. If not the AT, then something. Thanks for taking so much time and care to take us along with you on your adventure. It has meant a lot.

CONGRATULATIONS Maddie! You really did it! I am so happy for you and all your friends gathering up there on Katahdin. You've come a long way in the past six months, in both distance traveled and in fortitude. I think you made the right choice to skip ahead and catch up to your friends. Those remaining 80-some miles will allow to say goodbye to the AT at a nice leisurely pace. ENJOY them! And "Thank You" Maddie, again for taking the time to make all these videos. All your viewers have enjoyed getting to know you on your journey. It's been a pleasure! ps- Are you going to donate that well-worn shirt to the Smithsonian now? (LOL)

That’s my mountain. From 1970-1979 I lived in Patten, Maine. Mt. Katahdin was seen from house on the hill and the sunsets were amazing. Katahdin High School was our school for the surrounding small towns. It’s my favorite place on earth. Home I loved watching you reach the top. Is there still the stones piled up to make it a mile high? I never got to climb it but my older sister. Knife’s edge would be too scary for me but congratulations. I love your channel. I just bought my 2016 Sienna XLE and want to do a build very much like yours. It’s my favorite of all the builds I’ve watched.

Maddie, First of all, CONGRATULATIONS! I must admit, there were times I was not sure you would make it but every time you rose to the occasion and forged on. I have enjoyed your videos, accompanying narrative and above all sharing the reality of the trail. You know after a rider in the Tour de France finishes a punishing 100+ mile ride they get on their stationary bike and ride even more to cool down. They have had the sought after accomplishment of finishing the day but the cool down provides an opportunity for reflection without the pressure of racing. That’s kinda how I see your last 85 or so miles. No real pressure to push hard, time to reflect on your (and Smoke’s) amazing journey over the last six months, just a time to relax and enjoy each day. Again, thanks for your supremely informative and beautiful videography. I know the effort required and for that I want to offer my heart felt thank you.

Bravo! And, as you indicated, it's not just another notch in the gun butt - it's all the things that happened along the way - the cumulative effects of an immense journey, seeming to culminate in a single place, all at once, flooding the emotions and the psyche. Some of us were teared up, along with you. “From childhood's hour I have not been as others were. I have not seen as others saw."(Edgar Allan Poe). “Beauty of whatever kind, in its supreme development, invariably excites the sensitive soul to tears.”(Edgar Allan Poe). About those American Indian tribes: They are collectively known as the Wabanaki Nations or Wabanaki Confederacy(Mi'kmaq, Maliseet, Passamaquoddy, Penobscot and Abenaki) - People of the Dawn. There is a phrase in the Western Abenaki language that I wish for you in every sense of the words, and it is this - Wli Bamkanni(pronounced oo-LEE bomb-kahn-EE). Its meaning, roughly translated, is 'travel well.' Travel well, Ranger Maddie, wherever life's journey may take you. Be well, stay safe. Take care... 🥾

Thank You so much for a reminiscence of my Katahdin adventure: In my time (spoken in a raspy old person voice) the mountain provided a sleet storm (in June!!) that turned the boulders to ice. I fell twice just before the Tableland and my son and I (wisely, I believe) carefully retreated. My knee has not yet recovered (6 years now) and my SOBO hike dream was at least postponed (probably cancelled 😥 )! However, I fondly remember the place where my son remarked that "This section gives a bad reputation to the concept of "trails": Look they even had to staple the rocks together!"! (9:01 in your video) I experience a somewhat vicarious relationship with the AT through Facebook, though I am day hiking my way through New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and hope for a knee replacement in the next several months. Congratulations on your summit and enjoy the remaining miles!👍BTW Odie's school bus is legendary!!!

I’ve been to the top of Whitney twice as part of thru hikes on the HST and JMT. It’s not climbing Mount Everest but a lot of folks attempt it and are uprepared in terms of the physical requirements and gear/clothing to be safe and successful. I feel like a lot of people treat it like a day hike coming in from the portal … its a few notches above that.
