Yeah, they have a strange smell, but still pretty cool. I‘ve got three of them and I may use them all on acoustics since they are pretty straight black. I will likely use more interesting fretboards on my electrics going forward, kinda like you do.

Good project, Tele's always a good starter for solid bodies. You can never have to many Tele's.

It certainly looks like a much easier process than acoustic guitars. I have thought about trying it, but I don't play the 2 electrics I have now very much. I'm looking forward to watching your progress.

I personally don't like relicing at all, however, it is your guitar and you should do what you want. Who cares what anyone else thinks - unless your building it for a client.
