Larry Bird is the real GOAT ! And , Easily the GREATEST All Around player to ever play the game ! He has the 2nd highest winning percentage as a player in the NBA ! He has three straight MVP awards and finished 2nd in voting 5 other times ! Larry Bird literally owned the 80’s NBA ! He is not only the founding member of the 50 40 90 Club , he’s the only player to do it twice ! He not only took his no-name college team to an undefeated season , he grabbed College Player of the Year and took NBA Rookie of the year the following season ! And the vote count wasn’t even close ! That year he took the Celtics from the worse record in the league to the best record in the league , in just one season ! He has three straight , 3 point contest trophy’s ! He regularly led the league in free throw percentage and usually led his entire team in scoring , assists and rebounds ! He is easily the greatest sharp shooter and probably the 2nd best passer in the history of the NBA ! So , I’m gonna just pass on your Lebum video ! Waste of time …..

Lebron is a great Player but he doesn't have the intangibles like Bird. Bird didn't care if he scored a Basket as long as they won. Lebron plays for his Stats and if a player doesn't have the Clutch Gene he can't be the GOAT.

the Lebron video doesn't make a great case, anyway. it mostly showcases him at 19yrs old and younger

I saw a stat one time that Bird not only won 3 straight MVP's, he also received something like 67% of all MVP votes over a 8 or 9 year period. He finished 1st or 2nd in MVP voting for something like 7-8 consecutive years. I don't remember the exact numbers but they were very close to these ifnnot exact.
@deihorus79272 жыл бұрын
Not mine just copied: Bird won Rookie of the Year and came in 4th in the MVP voting his rookie year. This is where Bird placed in the MVP voting the next 8 years - 2,2,2,1,1,1,3,2, becoming only the 3rd player in NBA history(Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell are the other 2) to win 3 straight MVPs

@@TonyMontana-tk6ek especially against the talent that bird was playing against... his seconds and thirds came in seasons where Dr. J, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Moses Malone were the MVPs... those guys were pretty good, too... 😁

First let me suggest you review, Larry Bird greatest passer all time. I'm white, 62 yr/old and had season tickets 1982-1997 for Celtic games. This guy did two or three things every game that you just said, how'd he do that. He's my GOAT, because he could have padded his stats, but was the most unselfish team oriented player I've ever seen. His rookie season, he was the great white hope and all the black players in preseason had already made up their minds, he was all hype. 10-15 games into the season they all loved him and he became the team leader until he retired. The year before he arrived they won 29 games. He was the only change in the roster and they won 61 games his rookie season. He won the championship his second season. Larry played with 4 guys he made hall of famers. I loved Magic and Kareem, but they needed each other. MJ took seven seasons to win a championship. MJ was 0-6 vs Bird in playoffs.

He didn't care for personal stats, we was one steal away from a quadruple double in only three quarters and got out with minutes left saying "I already did enough damage".

Before we forget Bird because of how many years has passed consider this. Bird created the 50-40-90 club and did it 2 seasons back to back = 87 and 88 and his 29.9 points per game were the highest of that club for 25 years until Curry topped it. Also if you look at Bird's 85 and 86 seasons = he just missed the 90% FT mark, SO I went back to look at all 4 seasons = 85, 86, 87 and 88. Bird actually averaged 50-40-90 for those 4 seasons!! He shot FG of 51.79% ( 3384 0f 6534) and 3 pointer was 41.45% (325 of 784) and FT was 90.07% =( 1670 of 1854) During those 4 seasons Bird averaged 28.1 points per game and 9.7 reb and 6.8 assists/game. No other "goat" candidate has even had 1 50-40-90 season. During Bird's first 9 years = before the heel surgeries, in games Bird played the Celtics won 534 and lost 177 for a win % of 75.1% and this was in the stronger East conference. Bird early in his career was on 3 all defensive teams = 2nd team and led the league in defensive win shares 4 times and 7 times in the top 5 in DWS. Bird was once 2nd in DRTG and 6 times was in the top 10 in DRTG. He told his coach to get him the ball at the end of the game so he could win the game numerous times and almost always delivered. I think he was the best over all player we have ever seen = definitely a top 5 = you have to have this guy on the floor because he plays well with any other type of player and has the killer instinct.

The only reason I watch Larry Bird vids is because my mom liked the Celtics. I was passively immersed in Celtics lore as a kid, and we lived in Fargo North Dakota! My mom was a strange bird. She watched those NBA tape delay games. Her favorite player was Dennis Johnson. He won the championship with the Sonics. When Dennis Johnson became a Celtic, she must have been in heaven.

Larry and Magic made the NBA what it is. Playoff games were being played in the afternoon and being shown at night. They literally made the NBA "must see TV." EDIT: They actually said that.

Bird checked himself out of a game against Utah, I think it was. At the end of the 3rd quarter. I believe. One steal away from a QUADRUPLE double. 😲 he actually got bored. Having his way, at will.

The college championship, game that Bird and Magic played - the highest rated to this day, wasn’t from two years ago. It was from 1979.

I love Majic and totally respect his game but he did have more help. Kareem has a significant case for being the goat and at minimum is top 5. Worthy was a top 5 player in the league for most of those years and Pat Riley is easily a top 3 all-time coach. Take into account role players like Bob McAdoo, Michael Cooper, Byron Scott, Jamal Wilkes and the like and it's easy to see that the Lakers were the most talented team in the league for most of the 80's.

Michael Jordan is the G.O.A.T as far as physical attributes and sheer will to win. But as many greats state Larry Legend was the greatest thinker to play. Always a step ahead. He was playing chess and rest of league was playing checkers.

The one year he didn't make the all-star team he was injured and only played 6 gms that season. In reality, he really played 12 seasons. Even more amazing is that he finished 1st or 2nd in the MVP race in 75% of those 12 seasons.
