We bought the cheapest L88 long hood on the internet and made it fit. When i searched all over the internet to find a video to show me how to do this, I couldn't find anything. So, in my usual manner, I just started doing what makes since to me. This is the hood we decided to buy:
socalvettes.co... .
Must blog sits that I read said to get ether a hood from ACI
www.acivette.com/
or one from Glastek
glasstek.com/pr...
The only problem I had with ACI or Glasstek was the shipping was more than I could do so SoCalVettes price plus shipping was about $300 cheaper than anything else out there.

I put one of these hoods on my '75. I didn't have to do all the adjustment seen here. The only thing I really needed to adjust was my getting used to looking down a narrow channel when viewing the road ahead!

If I were to mount that hood on my C3 I'd a) start fitment at the front edge first, b) drill a drain hole in the center of the low point for a drain, but I'd attach a small hose attachment and run it down the nose of the car so it would dump the water away from the motor. Nice job, looking forward to watching more!

Good job man, I’m probably gonna be looking at similar work soon as I’m planning to get a L88 hood and since my car is a Vega there is no option but fiberglass and I’m pretty sure it’s not going be hand and glove on arrival

Looks great man! Gotta buy an L88 for my 72 since the new Super Victor intake won’t clear the stock hood.

I have the same issue with wide gaps at the front of the car. Were you able to correct for this somehow? You mentioned the wide gaps at the beginning of the video but did not say if you were able to resolve this.

What did you do to correct the front hood edge at the headlight panel?

Your best starting point is to address the front gap first, as this fit will change the other dimensions and latch positions. Relocating the mounting position on the hinges some how would be my first choice. Also there is an nose rod that goes from the radiator core support (lower center) to the center nose. This rod should be in a neutral position. As far as shimming it to gain a better fit at the front of the hood . You may gain a little by pulling or pushing using washers on this rod, but don't get carried away. Minimal stress either way.

Here's what I don't understand about doing this to your car. Why do you want an L-88 hood on a car that isn't an L-88? The L-88 was manufactured as a race car, not for the street. What you've done is reduced visibility for the driver. If, and when, a kid or a dog jumps out from behind a parked car, you won't see it. Chances are you will hit the kid or the dog and now that you've intentionally made your car less safe, here come the law suits on top of having to live with the fact that you injured somebody or worse. And, all this for what? So, the car "looks cool"? Nobody cares about your car. Nobody is going to say "hey, it's an L-88". I understand modifying a car to suit your taste but this may not be such a great idea. I hope everything works out and really hope this high-rise hood doesn't prove to be a mistake. Good luck.
