I like it strong, so however long I steep it for I always squeeze the bag too. Unless I just leave it in there for the whole cuppa!

The kettle used to prepare the tea is also important. There's a reason why arabic chai is prepared in copper kettles

what a fascinating video! i really loved how you explored the science behind making tea. but honestly, i think there’s something to be said for the *art* of it too. sometimes, the best cups of tea come from the little tweaks and personal touches we make, not just the science. it's like cooking-there's a balance between precision and creativity, right?

As I understand it water temperature is also important and that different teas require different brewing temps. Additionally, I don't believe any tea should be brewed with boiling water. YMMV

I would never leave the spoon in my cup while steeping....it takes the heat from the water. I also add hot water to warm my cold up before I add the water.

This is absolutely a video from about five years ago. Also, I thought they mentioned water temperature in the original... Edit: Yup. The BBC uploaded this four years ago, and it's the second video when searching for "The perfect cuppa."

I do let my tea steep longer, BECAUSE I love strong tea. I ALSO have preferred cups for different drinks. Coffee cup, tea cup, Milk Cup, Juice Cup... I have a cup fetish.🥰

This fascinates me. I would never think of seeping my tea that long. I do seep it for about three minutes but never longer.

All of the time and energy that went into this study and they did not consider the temperature of the water and how it impacts the finished product. Absolute shame lol

There is your clue in how hot the water is at boiling point. One could also include the time of the year in how long one must steep their tea. ( summer V winter )

great video! i love how you broke down the process of making tea. however, i gotta say, while i appreciate the science behind it, i think sometimes you just can't beat an old-fashioned method. brewing tea is as much about personal touch and tradition as it is about precision, right? what do you guys think?

Lifetime tea lover . However , I object to the red cup idea - don't care for red anything at all , ever ! My preferred tea cups are shades of blue - calming colors ... ahhhhh... Not mentioned was the smells of different teas - we smell a food or beverage before we taste it , which then influences our sense of taste . ☕

What about pre-heating the cup before pouring hot water over the tea? It makes as much difference as filtered water The delicate brewing of a good organic tea should almost never be rushed. RTG
