Could this be ca sealed so the copper wouldn't tarnish.? I think it would be cool to either ca with glow powder in the cracks, or maybe try a process similar to stabilizing wood on it with clear epoxy so that it would fill the cracks but you could still see through to the copper layer.

Quick question, I noticed that when drilling the hole for the ring, a rig is used that spins the superconductor button itself instead of the drill bit. Is this because it creates a better finish than a moving drill bit? Or is it simply just the equipment available?

It does a little, but it is really easy to clean, and generally will only oxidize on the side that touches your finger, so some people don't even bother too at all.
