Makers Leather Supply

5 жыл бұрын

In this video (3rd of the series) we actually build the Tally Book Cover using the Template set from www.makersleathersupply.com. We cut out and construct the entire project using the back that we tooled and colored in the previous 2 videos. We buckstitched this project instead of sewing for a unique look.
Items used in this entire project:
Tally Book (available at Maker's Leather Supply)
4-5 oz Wickett-Craig Russett Tooling Leather
2-3 oz Wickett-Craig English Bridle (Tan)
Angelus Dye (Medium Brown)
Maker's Leather Supply Buckstitch Chisels (1/8 size)
One Step Leather Dressing
Brown Dye Marker from Earth Tones Dye Marker set
Scalpel
Swivel Knife
Barry King Shell Filler stamps (wide and narrow)
Maker's Leather Supply centering ruler
Craftool F910 Stamp (for the rope border)
Push Beveler

Great videos! I watched all 3 of them today and you are a true artist in leatherworking. Glad you introduced me to a few new products I have not used. BTW, as I listened to you speak I couldn't help but think I heard your voice before, then I realized you sound like Luke Bryan, country singer!

Those markers look like the Molotow Empty 30mm marker. Montana and Liquitex also makes them I use the Montana willed with dye for edges and the Molotow 1.5 and 2mm refillables loaded with acrylic paint for outlining stamped letters and such. Michaels and Hobby Lobby used to carry them, but I haven't had to buy any lately, so I'm not sure if they still have them. If not, Dick Blick art supplies has them. Around $7 ea.

Great work! One question; when you terminated the buck stitch, why did you pull the thread out of the hole rather than tuck it back in the pocket like the beginning stitch? Just preference or is there a reason? Thanks for the video.

Great videos watch all 3 in one sitting. PS what do you put on the edges before you burnish? Also are you not meant to punch all the way through with pricking irons? Respect from London 🇬🇧

@MountainFisher
@MountainFisher 5 жыл бұрын
I use stitching chisels, the economy kind and I don't try to punch through more than 1/4 in because I might break off a tine and I use beeswax too which makes it easier. I typically use a Fiebings Pro dye for my edges, but have never used Angelus dyes. My question is is the Angelus dye as good and color fast as the Fiebings oil based Pro dye?
@makersleathersupply1220
@makersleathersupply1220 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, but my favorite part of Angelus is the colors. Feibings just cant pull off red and blue and yellow and turquoise like Angelus can. Much less the other 48 or so colors. Also, try paraffin wax... works way better for helping your tools slide out of the leather.
