It's a super popular/old technique used in the prop making world. They love EVA foam for crafting all that costume stuff. Probably used in movie industry too.

You can get it at any craft store. Look for "Craft Foam" in the kids crafting section.

This has to be my favorite variation on homemade battlemats to date, great result! Good idea to go with EVA, very flexible and the heat gun trick cosplayers use so much works like magic in this context, very nice!

EVA is a severely underused tool in terrain making. The heat gun technique is used in Cosplay all the time and seems almost magical!

@@KnarbMakes do you know if EVA will take patterns from rollers pretty effectively? I mean the terrain rollers from places like greenstuffworld or etsy.

@@BattleHardenedGames it can, but you need to heat the EVA first before rolling. And them take care afterwards as the pattern can be lost if you heat it again. Press really hard and maybe score some of the lines with a blade afterward to make them more pronounced.

Nice trick with the heatgun. What I learned from painting banners in the the sign industry, we always rolled them up with the paint on the outside. Paint stretches easier than it compresses.

This is awesome! I really liked that you showed your test process and showed what didn't work as well as what did end up working. It will really help people possibly avoid some of those pit falls. I have been super torn on if I want to use necromunda tiles or a battle mat. I think I may make a battle mat that looks like the purchased tiles!!

Absolutely amazing. One side note - acrylic caulk with latex also provides a very flexible adhesive and texturing. thanks for sharing - love your design and execution - and very good production quality (clear shots, good lighting, etc.). thanks again for the video.

Id love to see you tackle building a city fight board the traditional way: with modular tiles with sculpted on detail and maybe modular elevation Id also like to see your take on a zone mortalis board with walls and floor tiles (without the laser cutter)

Looks cool, but I would avoid mixing different paint types together (latex and acrylic) as you risk getting cracks or splitting later on. I have made my own textured/flocked mat and used only acrylics with no issues.

Seems to be holding up alright so far. Latex and Acrylic work well if given proper time to dry and cure.

@@KnarbMakes good to hear. I've seen other people foolishly mixing acrylic caulking with non-acrylic paint and it's cracked. The Terrain Tutor had that issue.
