I was thinking the same thing. I live in North Georgia in the US and was confused by the mountains and snow in the thumbnail. South Georgia here is flat and hot and full of tall pine trees.

@brianmccarthy55572 жыл бұрын
Georgia is an independent country with a very long history and now totally independent of Russia. The place is so old it was the setting, as Cholchis as it was called in ancient days, of the "Tale of the Golden Fleece" and much of "Jason and the Argonauts" both dated to Mycenaen times well befirw 1,000 BC. That's well over 2,000 years before the foundation of the rude village of Muscovy. Georgia in the USA is named after the several Hanoverian Kings of England named George. So what does Russia have to do with this (yes, I know the Czars occupied Georgia and defended it from the Turks for a period)? After the current Ukraine debacle I would hope Russians would turn down their imperialist styles of speech. It would be wise as the Georgians have been arming and fortifying themselves since the Ukraine heated up.

I’m sharing this with all those I can who would be interested. You seriously did a bang-up job here, even if it’s just extensive compilation. Thank you for all those hours you spent, you should be proud. It was well worth it.

As an argentinian, its nothing but extremley interesting and unique to watch this in depth analysis of this part of the conflict. Our terrible goverments, as always, give and gave us little to no information on how, where and which Argentinian soldiers died and it was even up to a British proposal to properly find the remaining bodies and create the cementery for the fallen. Learning about battles happening outside the falklands over here from direct sources or veterans? Non existent. They don’t even know how many veterans took their own lives, how can you expect them to talk about their experiences in the war (except for some, very little groups of veterans that do talk and are still harassed by the public because they respect the british soldiers) The average low class habitant will assure you the falklands are still ours which is truly incredible. I knew the Georgia and Sandwich islands were also taken by our forces, but I had little to no idea on the battles that took place over there, and can’t believe we actually lost a helicopter over there. Props to the royal marines, those guys never miss. Listening to veterans talk about their experiences in the war is truly outstanding, from both sides. Having spoken recently to an A-4 pilot was truly outstanding and mind-blowing, and seeing British Marines talking about South Georgia is outstanding too, as those islands are not even mentioned over here (The falklands/Malvinas are still the main “symbol” or territory that many people want to claim back or thinks is still ours, again, mind boggling.) Thanks Major for giving us this great content and, as always, keep up the great work. Your projects are truly appreciated by everyone around the world.

NP8901 accommodation was disgusting. It was built in WW1 and condemned in the early 1960s but the FCO said it was suitable for Royal Marines. More worrying, the only 2 inch mortar was fubar and the FCO never sent a replacement. The Falklands War was about saving Thatchers arse.

@Valencetheshireman9272 ай бұрын
You’re right. Argentines were the aggressors. At no point have they or even Spain ever possessed South Georgia, yet still they claim it.
@benwilson6145Ай бұрын
Cry me a river! May I suggest you learn to read history, the British were in the Falklands before Argentina existed, when you were still murdering the native people in South America and liking the Spanish boots. The Falkland Islanders did not fancy being thrown out of a helicopter after you had kidnapped the children. Sad sick people.
