The reason we use a twisted nylon (or wire) is so that we introduce air under the pot thus breaking the suction and facilitating the lift off. www.simonleachpottery.com “Keep practicing :)”

Simon definitely made a believer outta me with this cutoff wire.. along with his throwing stick! both are invaluable pieces for the potter to have and I won’t be without either of them lol :) Thank you Simon for all you’ve done over the years imparting your wisdom and knowledge… as well as encouragement :)

Thank you Simon, your cutoff wire is the only wire I use to cut work directly off the wheel, it’s perfect!

I do mine slightly differently. I use a single strand double the length. When it's well twisted up hold the centre and let the two halves touch. They twist up on themselves and you don't need the heat gun to fix them in place,

I love the way a wiggle wire marks the bottom of a pot or mug. I don't rotate the wheel when I use it, so it makes horizontal rippled lines instead of circular like yours.
@sleachpots7 ай бұрын
You will get more trapped air under the pot if you cut off with a slow rotation. That breaks the suction :)

Thanks again. I watched your previous video and I only make your version of the cut off wire. Works the best 👍. Cheers and happy new year.
