Lots of good information about wicking beds, not a huge amount about making soil specifically for it.

It’s easier to saturate the peat moss first, then mix everything else.

Thank you. Yes that’s a good tip. The peat moss is pretty hydrophobic most of the time and it can hold a lot of water.

Great instructional video for a newbie like myself. Would you be kind enough to share what fertilizer(s) you use in this mixture and the frequency of use?

I use a variety of fertilizers. I like to use fish emulsion and I always add blood meal and bone meal when planting. The bone and blood meal I put in the hole before the plant goes in ( about a fistful of each in each hole. The fish emulsion I do about every 6 to 8 weeks. ( smells bad , works good ) I am not opposed to using 10 10 10 sprinkled around under the mulch on occasion I will use liquid miracle grow if something needs a quick feed. Thanks for watching and I wish you all the best for your garden 😀

For me, I have much better luck with worm castings than manure in wicking tubs. Manure is too contaminated and variable in quality. The castings are more expensive but I think it’s worth it.

I like worm castings but you are right they are pretty expensive. Hope you have a great gardening year 😀

Hi, great information. what size/how many ounces are the solo cups?
@getyerwellies6651 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for checking out the video. Those are 16 oz solo cups. You can always use more than that but I wouldn’t use less. I use this soil mix all the time in my rain gutter grow system and my wicking tubs and get great results with my peppers and tomatoes. I wish you success with your 2023 garden 😀
