Wow, some great looking coasters and you have inspired me to use all those bits of scrap wood, I now wish I had bought a band saw rather than a table saw, as I have 10 x 8 wooden shed
@bitsofwoodworkshop93936 жыл бұрын
I'm honoured to have inspired you! There's no better feeling than creating something with your own hands! When you're done your coasters send a pic or a link to a vid, I'd love to see them! My shop is very small as well so I feel your pain on that one, but my table saw is the heart of my shop and I think you made the right call on that one. You can use a jigsaw for pretty much anything a bandsaw can do. Happy building!

Just finished making six coaster sets using a lot of bandsaw cuts and narrow strips and a lot of gluing and clamping. They look good but your coaster sets look at least as good, maybe better, and I can use up a lot of unpurposed wood while I'm at it. Thank you for the great ideas. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving Day.

After the resaw, it goes through the planer. Does the glue hurt the planer blades..? (My woodworker buddy says only raw wood through the planer and joiner because the glue is so hard it will/could damage the blades)... Thanks

What tips do you have on keeping the wood flat? I've made a few coasters now from just two pieces of timber and always encounter cupping. I guess the answer is just lots of smaller pieces?

I'm making a set for myself out of the off cuts from cutting boards this Christmas, and for the holder, I'm drawing inspiration from your second to last holder design (the one after the one with the holes, but has that 45 degree or whatever angle cutout in one corner) I was curious what the bottom of that is like, since it looks like the holder has feet but can't see the bottom... Is it open or closed?
@bitsofwoodworkshop93934 жыл бұрын
It’s closed on the bottom, about 1/4 inch up. The “feet” are cut into the side panels. Best of luck!

@bitsofwoodworkshop93936 жыл бұрын
It's actually called a sanding mop. I ended up with a couple mixed in with a box of misc tools I got from a garage sale. Surprisingly I use it all the time! Great for getting a final sanding, especially on pieces with little nooks and crannies. Thanks for watching!
