Please help, can you use the lip sync feature during a head turn? Will all mouth animations follow the movement of the head, including size and angle changes? i am planning on using after effects on my real life stop motion clips (silicon models). So basically similar to robot chicken, but instead of using stickers for mouth movements i would use after effects. In theory it seems like a possibility, but no-one seems to have attempted this. can i have a video clip in the background and animate over it (video is a previously recorded animation.) 2D animation over a 3D animation. Thank you (first KZbin comment = be nice)
@okaysamurai7 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can do lip sync and head turns - but the artist needs to provide the artwork for each of the 7 possible views. For a Robot Chicken style thing, personally I'd do the lip sync flat in CH and then use motion tracking in AE to do the movement and skewing. I have seen this done well before with Lego stop motion.

Hey I'm having trouble with custom drawn arms bending properly, particularly making like a Touchdown sign with the arms, and also having trouble with a character that wears a cloak for some reason moving the arms moves the whole coat despite them being in separate layer groups. Are there any more videos, guides, and example puppets? I've watched all of yours, great job!
@okaysamurai8 жыл бұрын
+Kevin Flanagan A few tips: 1) Try making the default position of the arms an "A" position (diagonally slanted down), that seems to get the best results. 2) Everything in the body group, despite being in separate groups or layers, will be included in the body. So you may want to use some extra fixed handles or sticks to nail down problematic parts of the character. 3) Currently if there are "islands" - layers that have several unconnected parts instead of one solid shape - things tend to mess up (this will be fixed in future versions). What I do when that happens is delete a layer, see if it fixes things in CH, and if not, undo and try another. Eventually I usually find a layer with a stray mark or something causing the warping to get wonky and modify it until it works. Hope that helps!

@okaysamurai8 жыл бұрын
+Kritan Batanu Thanks! I may do one in the future, but for now: you can add as many puppets as you want to a scene. Whichever puppet is selected in the timeline is the one you'll record. Personally I record one character at a time and then composite them in After Effects, but if it's a simple scene then CH is fine!

Great tutorial. I've been playing with my characters and the eyes change size independently of each other. Any ideas on how to fix that?
@okaysamurai8 жыл бұрын
+mytubepm Thanks! Hmmm. Sounds like it's either a) a naming/organization issue - something isn't named right, in the correct folder, or you're missing something like a blink state, or b) there's a stray mark somewhere (an unconnected dot or something) that is negatively affecting the warping. We are working on better tools to identify and fix these issues in the future (I just ran into B rigging a character yesterday), but for now it's a trial and error approach - delete a layer, see if it fixes it, undo and try another. Hope that helps!

Hi, Great presentation. Currently using Toon Boom Animate Pro 3, is it possible to do turnarounds, body replacements, etc? That would be awesome. Nick Kypros
@okaysamurai9 жыл бұрын
+nick kypros Yep, you could do this a few ways - either a) connect everything to head turns, where the head/body could automatically turn depending on your head position (look right to turn right), or b) set certain body replacements as key triggers (set a layer to only show up or replace another layer when you press a key, like only show this pointer finger when I press P).

Thnx for the video. There is one thing I would like to ask. In som examples (in other YT vids, or this one ) there are multiple limbs animated at the same time. For example moving both hands at the same time or one leg and hand ... can you please advise me how it is done? Because in every video I have seen people always draged one limb around to demonstrate the feature. Or even better can you please make a video about it? :) Thanks a lot.
@okaysamurai9 жыл бұрын
+VOMITador98 I do need to make a video about this because it's a common issue. You have to go into your puppet panel and add extra "Mousetrack" (soon to be "Dragger") behaviors for each drag you want to record. So with Fury, for example, I'll add 2 more dragger behaviors to him and do three rounds of recording: left arm, right arm, tail. Eventually we want this to just work - that each dragger handle counts as an independent drag automatically - but for now this is the workaround. Hope that helps!

Hi Okay, great video. What kind of webcam do you use for this. Are there better programs than this with more figures, 3D and where the camera register the whole body? Thanks !!
@okaysamurai8 жыл бұрын
I use the built-in cam for the Macbook pro, and usually a u37 USB mic as an external mic. There are more examples in the official pack here: forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-6029. Full 3D might happen in the future, but we're starting with the more accessible 2D. We've experimented with full body stuff and that could also come in the future, particularly through depth-sensing cameras like Kinect - for now you can do things like body turns through keyboard triggers and limb movement through dragging. The product is still in a preview phase so we have a lot more that we're working on & keeping us busy!

i wanna buy this BUT not convinced yet ,basically you are animating a flat puppet the final result is very robotic and distracting you can easily tell whats going ,how is this different from the bone tool on adobe flash
@okaysamurai8 жыл бұрын
+XAVIERCUERVO Everyone has their own preferences for animation - this is just one tool. If you turned all the sensitivity settings way down, you would see a less 1:1 animation style (see the parallax effect in the "Building a Puppet From Scratch" video for a more subtle, 2.5D effect). CH does not currently have bones or IK support, but sticks do allow you to determine the rigidity of certain areas. If you have Creative Cloud and/or After Effects, feel free to try it out (since it's included) and let me know what you think!

Hi Dave, great job on the tutorials! I had a quick question: when I open a scene in Adobe After Effects, it takes a very long time to load (sometimes 5 minutes.) Is this normal for it to take this long to load up a scene into after effects? My scene usually consists of a puppet that is about 40 MBs in size by the way. Anything I can do to increase performance?
@starwarshq7 жыл бұрын
Actually it looks like it was because my files were way too big. lol So I resized them by half and now it is loading literally 75% faster! So, if anyone else is having the same problem, make sure your photoshop documents are not 5,000 pixels wide like mine were. ;)
@okaysamurai7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah, the best ways to cut down are a) file dimensions/resolution, b) flattening any extraneous layers (like if I have 10 layers for a shirt, merge those into one layer), and c) limiting or simplifying the amount of complex elements like dangle and head turns. Glad you figured it out!

why do my puppet has white background while importing puppet in adobe after effects. Any solution please?
@okaysamurai3 жыл бұрын
This should only happen if your original PSD or AI file has a white background in it, or you added a background in CH. Otherwise your character's background should be transparent when importing into AE.

+Okay Samurai Can you make a tutorial on making a character like the Fury in Photoshop?
@okaysamurai8 жыл бұрын
+Dan Doronin Yes - I did exactly that in a tutorial video that will be released in the next month or so. Keep checking back here for when it will get posted: forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-5992

+Okay Samurai Is it a good idea to paint my eyebrows and nose with facepaint to make Character Animator track my facial features smoother?
@okaysamurai8 жыл бұрын
+Dan Doronin Haha...haven't heard before if that works or not - let me know if you try! In my experience it's mostly about how well lit your face is, so try shining a desk lamp (or even a smartphone light) at your face for better results.

Is there a way to move both arms together or a way to copy the movement so they are synced?
@okaysamurai6 жыл бұрын
The best way to do this is through a touch enabled device, so you can touch and move both draggables simultaneously. Copying and pasting will only work for the same draggable handle, so your best bet is to record one at a time and use slo-mo recording to line up timing. @okaysamurai6 жыл бұрын
This is an older tutorial - now there's dynamic link, just drag your CH scene into AE. Or if you need the script, I've got it here: adobe.ly/2ixVUlH
