We always talk about how Microsoft is doing backwards compatibility but we never talk about how amazing Nintendo did with Wii backwards
@boocaliffo30245 жыл бұрын
I agree but the Wii simply was a Gamecube update. We had backwards compatibility but also new games technically outdated. It was a problem also on WiiU, they were forced to use an old and expensive architecture to have an hardware compatibility with the Wii. The result were high production costs, weak hardware and developers that were frightened by that architecture.

Other tip: you can control the Wii Menu with the Classic Controller (but not the GameCube controller for some reason). I just mod it with Priiloader to autoload USB Loader GX instead of going into the Wii Menu so it can accept any input device by the start and even though the app is made to load games through USB, it loads discs and patch them for online connectivity and such.

13:12 1: You are too close to the IR sensor bar. The bar has two rows of LEDs, 4+4 i think. And the Wiimote then see 3 or 4 of them. (yes, i wish it only had 2 bright LEDs) 2: You don't have to have the bar at the TV, have it on a small table in front of the Wiimote. Have a dark cloth under it, to avoid reflections. 3: Go to the sensitivity settings, and experiment with what setting and distance works the best. 4: If you have the bar close to the Wiimote, put some dark tape over some of the LEDs, until the Wiimote see only one on each end. 5: Go to the sensitivity settings, unplug the bar, look around with the Wiimote, and look for IR light. Adam I think you were a bit rough on the Wii console. I've never had any issues playing the Wii having been with Nintendo since the NES days hardcore. Everytime I've played games on the console it performed as it should have. The Wii remote worked properly as it should have. The Wii remote can be frustrating to use for gamers who are used to standard console controllers as it may not seem as precise, or muscle failure sets in and gamers get tired. I've gotten super deals over the last few years involving Wii consoles with games & accessories at breakneck prices. I can't say no and am looking to increase my Wii collection. I like the M Cable used in conjunction with the Wii U on Wii games. That cable does make Wii games look great! Thanks for sharing the info.

@@tennies Yes that's the problem if you let the battery packs, or batteries in general sit in the Wiimotes(I always take mine out after charging, and when done playing) because it always keeps a very slow drain on them looking for the always on connection. My only issues have been pairing a couple of 3rd party controllers after having not used my system for months on end, or programmers who did not know how to make proper controls for the games, and an arcade stick which plugs into the Wiimote that freaks out on a handful of games, and homebrew emulators if I have the motion plus adapter on them. While I really like the effect the Mcable has on more modern, higher resolution stuff, I'm honestly not sure I like it for 480p content, looks a little too soft and blurry at times, for example look at the detail lost in the brickwork on the underside arches at 7:30, or the gold edges of the carpet. Perhaps it's more of an issue of the Wii already having quite a soft output compared to other 480p consoles because I seem to remember being impressed with the results of the Dreamcast comparison you did with the Mcable. It would be interesting to see what it would look like on an original Wii with the Wii Dual HDMI mod which gives it a true direct digital signal that is basically identical the GameCubes output.

I didn't know about the 3rd party alternative to trick the Wii U into using GC controllers for Wii games, so I may need to look into that. Also, I'll disagree about AA batteries. Because of the cost and limited life of batteries, especially proprietary ones, I prefer the option to use AA or AAA rechargeables. I use them for 360, Xbone, and Wii. They are plentiful and won't have to worry about them becoming hard to replace in the future. I had the 360 charging kit and my battery died just before the Xbone came out. Don't want to pay for the cost of a replacement, but already had a charger that came with a camera I had, and got some AA rechargeables. No looking back now, it's my go to and I know they'll be around for a long time.

I’ll never understand this whole “proprietary batteries on controller are bad and will die in some year” argument. I’ve NEVER had any issues with my PS3 and PS4 controllers, or even the Wii U gamepad or Switch pro controller, all of them bought when they launched at day 1. Charging them with just a cable is just way, WAY more convenient than AAA batteries, and this bullshit you all agree on is why Microsoft continues to sell you controllers without batteries just to sell their “play and charge kit”.
@lostboy6263 жыл бұрын
My PS3 and PS4 controllers do not hold the same charge that they used to. For me it’s no more inconvenient to plug in my rechargeable batteries than it is to plug the controller into a USB port. I always have a fresh charged pair at the ready when the used pair goes flat. At least I know I likely ever won’t have to worry about what to do with a dead rechargeable battery buried in the controller. I can't stand the Wiimote either, just not a fan of the 'split controller' style. Give me one full-sized controller and I'll be happy! That said, I really haven't had many issues getting my Wiimote to aim correctly, as others have stated prior, its likely a lightning issue in your room. Don't have bright lights in front of the remote, try to turn off most lights or dim them low to see if it helps with the shaky / jittering. Go to the options menu and calibrate the two dots (which is the sensor bar's IR lights) until you are satisfied enough with the results. This should improve your Wii enjoyment (ever so slightly). Also invest in some Eneloop rechargeable batteries, buy an 8 pack of AA batteries with the charger, you'll be glad you did!

I was a Wii hater with no reason like you when the Wii was mainstream. I got one lots of years ago after its success and boy this machine is pure gold. The Wiimote is the most versatile game pad ever made and the catalog is fucking amazing. Just homebrew it and get a component cable (that expensive cable you mention isn't necessary at all) and you don't even have to buy another console anymore.
@AdamKoralik4 жыл бұрын
To say I hate it for "no reason" is really disingenuous. Sorry, there's no force in this universe that could ever convince me the Wii isn't garbage. Even the best things about it are done by other devices. In your own example, it needs to be hacked to be useful. You like what modders gave you, not what Nintendo offered. As for the cables thing, I'm afraid you don't understand the point of the device if you think they're at all on the same level. It's like comparing a jet aircraft and a helicopter. They both fly, but one clearly goes a lot further.
@koken12044 жыл бұрын
@@AdamKoralik I'm not trying to convince anyone, I'm just sharing my point of view. I "hated" it because I thought/assumed "it was for kids" due to the Sony/MS fanboy hate comments on that time, but TBH I never tried back then and I got like "Ok I was definitely stupid" when I did. It has lots of games of all types and the wiimote has an endless ammount of functions depending on the game (most versatile controller ever made), not to mention the large ammount of available accesories (my fav one is the uDraw tablet and the balance board on the second place). Graphically it wasn't as powerful as the ps3/360 that's true but Nintendo never tried to take part on that race; they always prefered to go for innovation (which the Wii clearly did). However and as I already said the component cable is a night and day change, and the launchers (I use USB Loader GX) improve that as well. And besides that it is a really cold and silent device; no heating or noise issues at all (a friend of mine forgot to turn off his one for 3 months and it was okay and non burning when I noticed it was on). As for the homebrew the Wii is already awesome without it but as many other devices (PSP, Vita, 3DS, etc) it gets totally boosted once homebrewed (SNES, MegaDrive, GB-GBA emus are awesome. And you can even play GameCube games natively). And let's be honest when a console is not mainstream anymore and its golden time is gone homebrewing makes a difference and a whole new world (X360 sucks nowadays because of the poor homebrew options amongst other things). PS: I never was a Nintendo fan but a SEGA one (RIP), but I don't have issues on admitting when something shines and it's good. And the Wii is. This console has brought me lots of hours of fun and joy and still does because the catalog is so huge and good that I have new (and great) games to play for ages.

Important note is "real physical battery" inside might be two AA battery, two AA battery With wrap and two red-black cable or square Ni-mh battery whitout shell (aka carefully when open). you can order weird battery shape from aliexpress to fix it your self or just ask any electronic guy to do it for you.

I haven't seen any of those issues on the Wii. I never interacted with it much, just my friend's Wiis and I got one myself last year. (mostly because I wanted a GameCube and a Wii is a GameCube that also plays Wii games) Definitely never had the cursor jumping around, but then maybe that's a problem for the original controller that was fixed on the plus model. Not sure what to tell you about not having AA bateries and putting almost dead batteries in your controller, but I wouldn't hold the console to that. That said, so many Wii games shoehorned in motion controls that didn't need it, and so much of that was gimmicky bullshit that earned the Wii's reputation as a gimmicky system, which is unfortunate for all of the great games on it.

About the Wii remote i never had such problems with the alignment of the cursor like you are experiencing, maybe a lighting issue? who knows but, apart from the gimmick vs playing games on an actual controller, i think the Wii is a unique little system with a unique type of experience, great games and the virtual console with releases of classic games from NES to NeoGeo ...etc You might want to buy new rechargeable batteries with the dock and re-experience this, seriously you might change your mind! and use the Wii remote plus if you haven't already for the extra focus for Wii remote, have a good one! :)

The Wii sensor bar is infrared, if you have it next to a window, sunlight will wreak havoc, which is what you are describing. I learned this back in the 80's when our TV cable box (Jerrold 400) was facing a window and it would turn the TV on whenever the sun shined on it.

The best recommendation I can give to fix the sensor bar problem is make 100% sure that it is clean and its not being blocked by anything. Light can have something to do with it but really whenever my wii remote starts acting up this is why and once I make sure its clear it works just fine. Try also replacing the sensor bar. Some could be messed up and getting a different one can fix the issues. The adapter you got for the gamecube controller was also the main issue. Definitely not the Wii. You had to hold the cable is a certain way, that's a sign it was defective. Here's hope that home-brew devs will add drivers for the gamecube controller adapter in Wii software similar to Nintendont home-brew software. I think that all those charging cradles not working for you is ridiculous and insane. However you can't really blame the Wii for your lack of preparation for batteries. It was released in a time when built in rechargeable batteries wasn't commonplace. I don't use AAs as much but they are important for consoles that need them so I keep some lying around. Or keep some rechargeable AAs around and use those. Hope this can help. I love your videos and I respect that your not a fan of the Wii but make sure that all of this is working properly before making a final judgment.

12:07 I think the battery is dead, not the charging cradle. If you let anything with batteries without using and charging for a REALLY LONG TIME, they discharge on their own until they reach a point of no return. The only thing you can try is to charge until it "revives" for an hour or so, if it doesnt work, it is completely dead.

I always recommend, for all devices you have to keep them charged, especially if you forgot to use them for some time. It happened with the laptop of my dad, we forgot to use it for almost a year and it wasnt turning on like it used to when we tried. We kept it connected to the wall for an hour and then it started to charge the battery as usual.

I just got to the point where you were talking about how you have had trouble with the Wiimote not working well with the IR bar (losing its mind) around 14 minutes in. I’d check to make sure you have no other IR blasters nearby or that you don’t have a very bright (or warm) object that is interfering with the Wiimotes ability to read the IR bar I do agree with you for the most part on many of the Wii’s failings Also, I’d definitely recommend Eneloop or IKEA Ladda (Nimh, made in Japan) for rechargeable batteries for any console that by default takes batteries (Even Xbox Series X/S), they last significantly longer than the HORRIBLE (OFFICIAL!) packs from Nintendo and Microsoft

I don't remember if I asked this or not, so I apologize for my rusty memory, but this is a bit off topic, but seeing as how you have GameCube Component cables, and seeing as how most 4K TV's still at least support component, how does the GameCube look on a 4K TV when its connected directly through the TV's component port? Does it have trouble processing it since its a 4K TV? Or does it offer the same quality as previous results?
@PatoCrioyo5 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the TV, each brand and model group of TVs has a different way of processing the signal. Some do it great, with a correct visual processing and virtually no input lag, and some leave a ton of artifacts behind and turn some games unplayable. You'd need to find other people's experiences using analog inputs on your TV model or try maybe a cheaper component console to make sure it looks and plays well. Component will defintely look better than S-Video or composite in that same TV, of course, it's the better relative alternative no matter how bad or well your TV processes it.
