I've been making my own for a while now. Just water and diamond powder. I've had great luck.

yes it works I have done water I like alchol because I sometimes use a felt belt and they don't like water

I appreciate your focus on value & instruction; I've been debating what to put on my fresh leather stropping belts, and will try this out. Are diamond emulsions functional on felt belts as well? Thanks!
@zionpsyfer9 ай бұрын
They are. One of the videos I've seen that talked about diamond on felt belts strongly recommended Paul's mixture of only alcohol with the diamonds when using on felt belts or wheels. I think it had to do with gumming up the felt with emulsion or paste. Water could make the felt shrink(?)

It's an interesting video I linked in the description the guy who did it presents the data well. For me this has worked great for the last several years. I saved money considering what I had spent on Polly Sprays to just test some out. It's a fantastic way to finish knives. I have also had great results with Tormek paste as well amzn.to/3J2vfqk for me I can't see spending $36 for just 10ml of a name brand diamond spray when I can make my own for around $15-$20 for over 110 MLs thats 11 X more product with very close to the same results.

Just ordered some diamond powder. Why use the 99% alcohol? Does it make a difference?

It has the least amount of water in it and I try not to mix water and my stropps

Thank you for the video good sir. I bought some diamonds a few weeks ago and have been debating whether to try suspensions. This cinches it- no need. To my mind, mono diamonds should be preferable for polishing anyway. Polys cut may faster but wouldn't it be preferable to use a slightly gentler abrasive with a more shallow scratch pattern? Maybe I'm weird.
@ALXSHARPEN9 ай бұрын
Well depends on the finish and look you want. There are so many diamonds microns available it's crazy. I hate mirror polish stuff so I don't go above 1 micron often. But they can be useful for lots of things at 50,000 and up you can take scratches out of mirrors and acrylic and plastics I don't like how easily mirrored knives scratch so I don't buy them and rarely take on work that wants a full mirror polish because I just hate how easily it scratches from lower abrasives being around. Nothing makes me more mad than wiping a mirror finish with a rag and it gets a scratch from one of the abrasives in the shop that may be on the rag.
@zionpsyfer9 ай бұрын
@@ALXSHARPEN 100% agree on mirror polish (both entire blade and secondary bevel). Too much upkeep unless you are just using it for display. I was thinking more of cleaning up around the apex and burr/burr root removal. Wouldn't it be best to avoid deep scratches and the possible distressing of metal when doing that cleanup? Ultimately i suppose it's splitting hairs on my part since either type does the job. Thanks for the reply and for the knowledge you share. I have learned so much.

Do you have to have a special spray bottle so the diamond particles will pass through or are the particles small enough to pass through any spray bottles?
@RK-kn1ud21 күн бұрын
I suspect that the diamond powder is probably small enough that it wouldn't be an issue.

I’m looking to use a 3-6 micron diamond. Do you think the 6 micron will be too big and clog the spray bottle? Have you had any experiences with the spray heads clogging?
