I totally agree with everything you said about the TSPROF KO3. I moved up to the same model about six months ago. As I’m currently setting up a very small knife sharpening gig I am gathering a few 1x30 sanders and learning to use them. I spend 45 minutes to an hour per knife on my KO3. Can’t make money spending that much time per knife. However, as you said, I will use it on high end pocket knives and my own knife collection. I will charge more for that high end service. As a side note, I have the same Harbor Freight wood working bench. I bought it for reloading. I had to cut the length down to fit in my little shop. But it’s really handy.

No do not do that - The very best thing to do with your laser is vent it to the outside world. If you can't do that then you need an air cleaner thats made for lasers but I find those are best for events or people with zero options to vent outside world. The #1 option bar far is vent to outside air and I am a big fan of adding a inline fan to that vent. I have an older video on mu old shop on this topic. check out this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/pGqrfqmonsebsLcsi=7aiTLVoo-eideLAM And in the bottom of my products page I have all the laser venting links and fans and more of things I use www.alexandriaknifesharpening.com/sharpening

Being very new to this, and watching many videos, what would leaving the protective film on the plexiglass do? Or, if you buy bigger sheets and make your own shapes, some plexiglass comes with a paper like protective covering. Just wondered if anyone has done any experimenting by leaving the protive film in place until after the engraving was done. I have some thoughts on what could potentially happen but don't want to skew someone else's thought process. TIA

I have some very thin metal that I got to test cutting with my F1 Ultra that I have not done yet. I had a person who makes model cars ask because he stacks them to make parts. My strongest laser is 20 Watts and it can cut thin metal but we are talking very thin. He is a link for ComMarker comparison units scroll down one category is cutting and that will help you see what units will handle cutting metal the B6 Mopa can cut 2mm but they have some that can cut all the way up to 5mm I would check to see the specific metal type too as they vary between metals here is the link to that page commarker.com/compare-machine/?ref=alxsharpen

I’ve been using this process for almost three years, and I’ve seen numerous knives I’ve repaired return for sharpening with the repairs still holding strong. In fact, I haven’t had a single customer report a repair failure to date. Sometimes, I’ll see a knife and admire the quality of the repair, thinking someone else did it, only to realize it was my own work from years ago! When I check my records and see they first came in for a repair and sharpening back then, it’s always a gratifying moment."

Great quick overview! Great explanation of this topic which I don't think gets a lot of focus/deeper dives. The balance of grit, sharpness, and steel type (like titanium where the burr is super rigid and doesn't want to pull off with felt or leather, like I found out today). Different metals finish better at different grit levels. Big topic, I'd love to see more on this!

I'm strongly considering buying a fibre laser and making a jig just to engrave my knives with serial numbers. When I had my 20w diode laser I got very good at using and creating on lightburn so I'm all set up and ready to go. Just need for them to become a bit cheaper. But you're 100% right. I'd used to groan at having to set up everything for different shapes and objects. Ended up selling it (for a really good price). Haven't missed it but I'd love a nice strong fizzing fibre for metal engraving.

@@ALXSHARPEN It's 100% you who's turned my eye onto affordable fibre lasers again. The last time I looked they were $50,000-$7,000 in my currency. The fact that you're so busy and get such a variety of work makes me curious as to your marketing methods and local population. I'm operating at only about 1/3-1/2 capacity. Working from home is so cool but I would enjoy more work. I want to have jobs on my bench all the time. The upside is that I can always do "same day sharpening" which many people are shocked at. Most of the sharpeners around here are mobile with minimum quantities and large wait times. One company has a 3 week sharpening time. I wonder if I should approach them to sub contract their sharpening. They use a T4 - poor things. I'm planning a total refit and reconfigure of my workshop (if I can get some help) soon and would love to have a lasering corner.

@@buckstopshere7305 you may have been someone ask me if it was the same so I purchased one to find out but they are already driving the price down of the higher priced sellers some have dropped their prices. Their website is not easy to navigate then add to the fact they have 20,000 products the search on it is not good for finding things but it’s getting better every day when I first went to it all the languages were mixed up then the other day they got it fixed I was shocked to see they even have lasers they told me they don’t keep a large inventory or the expensive items so probably won’t ever get one to test . The sweet spot for them seems to be products in the $200-300 range but I did see they had a 100 watt fiber laser for a good price but if I was spending that kind of money I’m not getting one from a relatively unknown company in the laser market. I can see how their model works for them but on the really expensive items like they’re 100 W Galvão fiber, laser that was $5000. I bet they sit around for a long time before they sell.

Well, I took the Vevor bait also. I was going to get one anyway, so no big deal. I also purchased the Wen wheel and the bearings. I am more satisfied with the stock wheel and tape solution though, so I am running that. I will replace the tensioner spring as there is too much "bounce" for my liking. I had much "tuning" to do as my unit was, sadly, assembled rather loosely. I use it in combination with my 1x30 Harbor Freight to get my edges ready for refined sharpening on a K03. I have also replaced the mount bolts through the frame to now go through and added lock nuts. Eventually I will upgrade all fasteners to ensure less potential for loosening due to vibration. I like the machine well enough to invest a few dollars more to stabilize it.
