Hi yuh Charlie, New proud owner of a leather pouch here. My question for you is, would you recommend sticking with a heat gun for helping the balm soak into the leather better or would I be able to set my leather pouch out in the sun for 5 minutes or so? Would the UV rays be too harmful for fading of the leather to where you wouldn't recommend this technique? If so, what type of "heat gun" are you referring to? Thanks much in advance :)
@charlietango1635
@charlietango1635 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, but don't hold it too close to the pouch, and keep it moving, as it melts rub it in with a cloth. Do-not leave it in the sun, as it fades the leather very quick.

Hi thank you for your video. I have a few questiosn about the beeswax: You mentioned it getting sucked into the leather due to heat. Does regular, day to day heat (say I leave my leather bag in the car for a few days) does the wax melt off and drip off the leather? And after some time, with dirt and dust accumulating on the leather, won't the beeswax absorb the dirt into the leather causing ugly discoloration? How do you clean the beeswax? How do you clean the leather after the dirty beeswax is absorbed into the leather? Thank you so much in advance for the help and reply.
@charlietango1635
@charlietango1635 Жыл бұрын
you should clean it with leather balm cleaner, or you could wipe it with a damp cloth to wipe the dirt off, but it should not lift the wax out, then just let it dry at room temperature, once the wax has been melted into the leather it will not run out of the leather, don't leave the bag in the sun for long periods, you should melt the wax into the leather bag with the wife's hair dryer or your heat gun, you will see it being absorbed into the leather.

I’ve been told that refined coconut oil doesn’t create a rancid odor like unrefined CO does. Is this true? Anyone?
@supernova1976
@supernova1976 9 ай бұрын
I did some research and found Fractionated Coconut Oil or MCT oil is basically refined and should get rancid. currently using this mixed with bees wax for wood chopping board and leather items and so far so good.
@brianmgrim
@brianmgrim 9 ай бұрын
@@supernova1976 Thanks for the input! I was just thinking about MCT for eliminating the white residue often remaining on leather garments when using the coco oil.
@supernova1976
@supernova1976 9 ай бұрын
@@brianmgrim Yes this is my understanding, when the MCT is separated and extracted from coconut oil, it also leaves the taste and smell behind in that white thick oil. Which leaves the MCT oil tasteless and odorless.

@charlietango1635 2 жыл бұрын
Hello there, you will need, half a bottle of boiled Linseed oil, 1pound of bees wax, half a bottle of turpentine. first thing to do is, melt the wax in a saucepan, (take it off the heat) then pour in the linseed oil and the turps stirring when you put it back on the heat, (do-not let it smoke) take it off the heat and stir well, then put it in a container that will hold it all, you can also use this as a waterproof for wax coats etc.

You can get ready mixed leather balm, but you don't want all those chemicals in them really, but the one I knock up will waterproof the leather, because if it gets wet you DO-NOT want to quick dry it, as it won't last 5 minutes.
