Silicone for mold making can be very finicky. I know many folks have had bad experiences with the adhesives reacting with the silicone. This sounds like your problem here. Some adhesives inhibit the proper curing of the silicone. I would recommend packing tape with the sticky side down. ( You can stick your items down with hot glue or a little double sided tape.) it's likely you'll have some silicone seep under the items, but you can easily remove that with some careful cutting. Another good thing to use for the surface instead of packing tape is some heavy gauge vinyl...like the stuff you can get to cover a dining room table or use a heavy duty shower curtain liner. I have a couple tips for you to try the next time you do this: save plastic containers like yogurt, jello, etc. You can use it for this then throw them away. Also I have found that the silicone can go bad if not used for quite a while- it will thicken up and you won’t be able to mix it. And lastly- silicone sticks to silicone so you can try pouring a small thin layer on top of the sticky layer and let it cure like normal. If done properly it will work. I use acetate for the bottom of my molds and use small bits of double sided tape to hold objects in place. I have also taped acetate into a cylinder and then hot glued the edge onto a flat piece of acetate for the bottom of the mold. You do definitely need to follow the directions COMPLETELY when making your molding mixture. It tells you what order to use the ingredients and it's VERY important to do it in the correct order. If it says shake something then shake it. If it says stir it then you need to stir it. I have had the best luck using the Let's resin mold making supplies. You can dust your mold with corn starch however I wouldn't use baby powder. I hope this helps you a bit and encourages you to try making molds again. As for the temperature and humidity in the room, I have made molds year round in all conditions. If you start in a hot room then keep it the same untill your mold is complete, don't turn on an air-conditioning half way through the process.

Silicone rubber molds are always sticky. Rubber molds are not. If the stickiness bothers you, then just powder it very lightly. Hope that helps.

If your imprint or mold holds its shape after casting, then you are alright but if your imprint is leaving fingerprints or is not holding the shape that has been molded into it, then it could be your mixing ratios are off. Make sure you mix everything to a “T”. 😁

Mine is like a thick film over the bottom not the top like a part didn't cure . You can scrape it off with a knife or stick . Something was off and I'm guessing it's the same issue she had .

It’s from the laminate paper. It will pick up any tackiness that the silicone is sticking to. Just try some acetate sheets and use your glue gun around it completely. Claire from Claire’s crafty corner ran into the same problem with her silicone being super sticky after using something similar. I know I’m just coming to this video late and you may have found this out already but I just wanted to share in case you hadn’t. You have great ideas and I enjoy watching your videos. My last molds came out sticky same brand, I didn't shake that one part. I just keep the molds in a ziplock. I also ran cold water over them it helped.

I haven’t used this particular silicone before, but my guess is a couple of things caused this. The silicone I use, Moldstar 15 slow, each part needs to be stirred separately before adding them together. Your mixed silicone looked really thin, so I’m guessing there’s some thicker mixture at the bottom of your jugs that needs to be incorporated. Instead of stirring, though, you’ll need to shake your jugs. If your molds are sticky just on the side that touched the sticky plastic, then that’s your issue. The only time I’ve had that issue was when I used a cheap contact paper from Dollar Tree. It wasn’t just sticky; you could literally scrape soft resin off with a wood stick. I now use only brand name Contact paper and haven’t had any issues since. Another possibility is using wood sticks to stir. I know wood sticks came with the kit, but my silicone recommends using something other than wood to stir. I have some plastic stir sticks that I use for silicone, and once cured, the silicone comes off easily. I use the same mixing bowl you have, so since the silicone stuck to it, my guess is there was a mixing problem. Good luck. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much. It was sticky on both sides not just the side that touched the contact paper. Any kind of plastic stir sticks will work or should it be a certain kind? I think I’m going to try again to see if I can make some votive candle holder molds and some inlays. I will definitely shake each bottle first this time.

@@TheBlueElephantGifts if I’m mixing a lot of silicone, I use a plastic spoon. It’s shaped like a wooden spoon, so you can scrape the sides and bottom of your mixing cup.

You said you poured in the activate first then the silicone. The activator somehow reacted to the plastic of your container (that is why you cannot get it out). Try pouring in the silicone first then add the activator and see if it helps.

You can try giving the mold a quick rub with oil. Any oil. If it's adhesive stickiness, oil breaks down adhesives.

Use some vegitable or olive oil. Coconut oil works good too. Just not petrol or mineral based. Works like a dream on the sticky left over from labels that wil not respond to the methods you already tried.

Maybe try shaking the actuator bottle and smearing a little of it in the mixing container. If it works, then maybe try it on the mold.

I had the same Problem with stickiness after using varnish on some of clay pieces I wanted to mold. Some chemicals in the varnish had stopped the silicon from curing. I had to throw the mold away. The foil for laminating has a heat activating glue in it, so I think it reacted with the silicon.

I had sticky silicone when I use adhesive foil to hold the items in place. Try to fix the items either double side tape, not use a big foil. The glue at the foil might react with the silicone. Sorry for my English 🫣 not my first language 😂

There's some types of silicone that can have weird reactions to some materials....possibly a reaction with the sticky stuff u used to place ur items on? But also if not mixed completely it'll do that too

A lot of silicone mold makers don't like uv resin,metal and polymer clay. The mistake that I saw that you made to cause the stockiness was because you scraped the cup to use all the silicone...don't do that unless you mix the silicone,transfer it to another cup and mix it a bit more...the sides of the original cup had unmixed silicone on it.

I got the clear and mine was sticky on the bottom aswell. I took a baby wipe and scraped as much as I could off with that and then scrubbed it with warm soapy water . It's ok now but I thought I did something wrong too

It’s weird cuz it’s not like it didn’t cure. It feels like it should with the exception of the stickiness. Like it’s solid like it should be and it doesn’t feel like a film or anything. The best way I can describe it is if you image a piece of tape and you can feel how it’s sticky but it feels like it should but not like a gloopy film or anything. I know it’s a terrible analogy. Sorry lol my brain is not working with me right now lol.

So mine was hard with the exception of the bottom that was against the plastic of the container. It had a thick "film " or thin portion that didn't cure . And it did it on both the items I tried to make a mold on . I thought I did something wrong . I made it in a new plastic container made for putting food away in .

I think I heard you mention that the bowl you mixed in is also sticky it had nothing to do with the laminate sheet. Sounds like you did not measure it correctly or you did not mix it correctly. I make molds and put transfer tape sheets in the acrylic and pour the silicone.

Yes there is a thin sticky residue all along the sides of the bowl and the stick that I used to mix it with. The bowl that i used was brand new and I didn’t wash it or anything first. Do you think that played a part in it? Should I have washed it before using it?

Another thing as I'm watching,don't reuse the cups you mixed silicone in...they never come clean and it will cause that same sticky issue. I buy dollar tree measuring cups for one time use and throw them way

So I tried the baby powder today. I used a super soft make-up brush to apply it lightly to it. It works while it is on it but then I took a baby wipe and rubbed a small part of it on the bottom of one of them and the stickiness came back. When you do it and then put resin into your mold do you have any issues with the resin curing or the baby powder leaving a residue or transferring into the resin? When you have to clean your mold does the stickiness come back for you too?

@@TheBlueElephantGifts I only wiped the baby powder off of the inside of the mold not the outside. Sorry it didn’t work for you. If I think of anything else or hear of anything else I’ll let you know.
