#185. The Resin WORLD IS YOUR OYSTER! An Epic DISCOVERY!
Here is a Resin Art video of me experimenting with UV resin and hair shampoo again, the previous video has now hit over 100k views now so I had to answer some of your questions..... well, I had to have another play! I love this technique so much! So in this one, we covered a few ideas and they all worked out great, I am however, especially fond of the pearls! They look sooooo real! What next?! This Resin Art Experiment BLEW ME AWAY!
Please do NOT experiment with products which may be dangerous if mixed with resin!

When using a UV light with mirrors, you have to be so very careful…. I mentioned his the other day on Steve McDonald's channel… I have PERMANENT damage to my eyes because of that bloody uv lamp! I was at my eye doctor for my yearly eye exam and he asked me if I had been looking up at the sun. I was like, what? Why would I be looking up at the sun? And he says that I have scarring on my eyes that only come from uv light burns…n I was like, oh ….well I do use a uv lamp to cure my uv resin and I use a mirror so that it gets light to the bottom of the piece and cures… he told me I need to be covering that lamp when doing it or I’m going to cause myself to go blind!!! So, make sure you are 1. Not looking directly at the light and 2. Cover the light so it doesn’t bounce all over and get into anyone else’s eyes either…

My idea for the tear drop is earrings. Just sand a bit of the pointy end off to add the jewelry bit. With the round beads, there are little "cages" for jewelry that they could be put in. I think they are called Bead Cages or Pearl Cages in the jewelry findings. The round blue thing looks like a melted binky! It could have a black cord attached to it for a necklace. I love the inner blue beads!

A syringe may be better for injecting colour into the resin because you don't have the added risk of the colour being sucked back into the syringe, like the bottle can do. Another great experiment with amazing results 👍👍👍😍😍😍

These are so cool! I can’t wait to see what else you do! 🥰 Fyi, there are pearl tweezers with cupped ends that makes picking pearls up easier. Also, when pearls are mounted onto prongs they are glued on with pearl glue, tho I’m not sure how well that would work with these. Pearls have a bit of a grainy/rough texture and these look fairly smooth, so my guess is to find something amenable to this material. ….and if you were to add just a wee bit of pink to the pearl mix, they would be stunning🥰

After watching one of your videos using dish washing liquid, I attempted the Prince Rupert’s drop and after a bit of practice, I got some drops with the tail. A bit different to what you do in this video as I worked out howhow long to leave it before turning on the uv lamp but also how big to make the drops relative to the consistency of the dish washing liquid. Mate, you inspire a lot of people and I’m happy to say, I’m one of them. I’ve just posted a pic in your let’s resin group on Facebook. I made a pyramid lamp with it. Not perfect but it’s all experimenting.😎

This looks like a good technique for making pearls in all kinds of colors - black pearls, green pearls, golden pearls, purple pearls… Also, if inserting something into a blob of resin, you could probably pour 2/3 of the resin first, and while it’s still in a string from the bottle make the insertion, then continue filling up with the last 1/3 on top to avoid the dimple.

I love this creativity ‼️ It's contagious 😊! What if… instead of going "semi-quickly" around three times making a circle ish… what if you go SLOWER… squeeze out more… and make sure you do not come full circle before the start has already SUNK. Then you can maybe continue and make a real spiral. Don't try to make it even or perfect. Any variations in speed or amount or position will show up as ART when cured 😊
@daniel..cooper
@daniel..cooper Жыл бұрын
I will try 😊 the issue is that the resin wants to move to the lowest point, which then creates the blobs, if too heavy or big of a blob, it will detach from the rest. I'm sure I will master it soon enough 😊😊

@Daniel Cooper Probably way to late for you to see this. But if you do by any chance. Get a cheap syringe. Fill it whit resin, then plunge it in to the champoo and slowly squirt out a bigg amount then slowly decrease the amount of ressin while removing the syringe from the shampoo. That should give you the Rupert drop like effect you are looking for. Well it should to a certain degree.

I've been making chess pieces(Let's Resin molds) with clear translucent but colored heads as a summer project(Black with red heads, white with blue. Very saturated colors, not just a tint, but very crystal clear. Very much like a blood red or sapphire glass as the end result). I decided UV resin so that I had time to get all the bubbles out, sitting for hours if necessary. Let's Resin was always tacky/sticky and bendy with alcohol inks. JDiction cures really well with alcohol inks. At least with my limited supply picked up on amazon, including the inks by some random brand. JDiction's 'low viscosity' was not great, just about as bad as Let's Resin. That is with trying all the tricks, water cure, using various UV lights AND sitting in sunlight before and after demolding. Nothing helped. JDiction did shrink up and let more liquid into some of the pawn heads, and that didn't always cure quite right, but only a couple bad pawn pieces which I could sand/polish down to 'fix'. Bit of an info-dump, but I know UV resin can't use too much powder and be opaque because it needs to let the UV through, so that's my results with a lot of translucent dye/ink.

if you want to inject inside it, let some air out from the needle bottle by squeezing it a bit than hold that pressure, next inject the needle, squeeze more, then gently release the pressure slowly, excess blue resin will get in side the needle. then stable that pressure while exiting the clear resin. good luck ! and great work sir !!

You really need a lighter background to show these off. The camera is trying to make it bright enough to catch the details in the black table and black gloves, and that’s way too bright to see the details in a white pearl. You get a better idea of what they look like when they’re on the white paper towel.

I think it would help if you put some silicone on the insides of your tweezers to get a better grip.

Seeing that pretty blue resin, I thought, what if he mixed in some of that pearlescent stuff? That would make some pretty blue pearls. Or any color, for that matter--wouldn't it be neat if you could custom-color your pearls for specific projects? What neat experiments, thank you!

Hey Daniel sorry I'm only just catching up with some of your videos. I was wondering if you used white chameleon powders or whatever they're called (the ones that are white with blue, green, pink, golden etc reflects) I think they would look awesome as pearls. Thanks for another great video btw ❤

I don’t understand. Shampoo gets bubbly when mixed in water. If that’s shampoo how is it when u put the piece in a cup of water to rinse it off that it doesn’t make even one bubble? It doesn’t foam up even a little. Especially considering that ur stirring it around vigorously. Don’t get me wrong- I’m super impressed. I loved watching. I guess I’m just confused.

The shampoo is super thick so it is sinking in the water and not mixing fully to create the bubbles 😊 If I stirred faster, it would foam up.

How clear are the clear drops, and how round are they? Would they work as lenses to turn a normal smartphone into a microscope? I feel like minor aberrations could be solved with image processing. The drops costs hardly anything. The plastic to print a mount for them on a phone, trivial. I see a situation where we all have a cheap. Everybody can have a reasonably good microscope for nearly nothing. Nowhere close to a lab-quality microscope, but close to those use for SMD work that today costs a few hundred $.
