I’m that obsessed with casting, I made a 1 inch pendant dome for every single paint colour I own. That’s over 220 little domes. 😝 I put a Velcro dot on the back of each one and attached them to a giant framed board. It’s my paint selection gallery that hangs in my studio. Now I can easily pull colours and colour palette samples from my board instead of dragging out all my paint to see what I want to use. 😊 Thanks as always for your quality videos! xx

For the oven I start with a cold oven and put it low for a few hours. It works for me. But that does cost energy. My other thing I do is put them over my heating vents. :) Good luck

I am thinking of using the whisker to gently whisk the powder into the water, what do you think ? It works wonders whenever I cook, really break up the small clumps easily and reduce the stirring by half the time I dare say.
@SusanNelsonCreations
@SusanNelsonCreations 8 ай бұрын
I would personally not do that as it will make more bubbles in your mixture. I just have gloves on and hand mix. I can feel the lumps and mix them in. But you can play around with what works best for you :-)

Hi Susan! I'm so grateful for you and this video! I decided that 2023 would be the year to finally try out a new hobby of paint dotting. I just placed my mold order with HDC. And have been searching for gypsum recommendations for Canada. Thanks to you, I discovered an Industrial Plastics in the next town over! I'll be calling to make sure they have the UltraCal 30 in stock. The smaller, mini rock molds you showed... do you remember where you found those? This is one mold I'm having trouble finding. Maybe 1" to 1.5" or so? Another question.... any tips for trying to do this in an apartment??? Other than covering everything with plastic. (Lol!) AND making sure to dump your cementy-water in the back lane. Thx!!! I'm suspecting it would be easiest to make the rocks in the kitchen, where clean up would be easier... as long as you have enough counter space, which I do. Really looking forward to giving this all a try. If successful... I may just have to give up quilting!

Can’t recall replying to you sorry! The smaller moulds like the hearts I get on AliExpress (cheaper) but also can be found on Amazon or Etsy. Just search “silicone moulds” As far as doing then in the kitchen…we’ll one, never put anything down the drain. Do a smaller amount that will make less mess. Wear proper mask. I see others just doing them on the counter but maybe put some paper or plastic down first. Glad to hear you found a supplier.

@@SusanNelsonCreations Thank you for your comment Susan. I have made and painted my first batch of rocks. Everything went well. I ended up doing all that you suggested. I found a few small molds... but they were candy molds and kind of too small for me to work with. I also discovered a way to mix cement that is not as messy (using a ziplock bag to mix and pipe into molds) .... so that helps with clean up. Thanks again for your reply!❤

@SusanNelsonCreations

If it’s the big one I used about 2500 grams of powder and about 950 water. But you best check your measurement as I could be slightly wrong. If you use a bit less that’s ok too. 2000 powder and 760 water. It will just be a bit below the bottom of the mold and in this case that won’t matter much

Thanks for the video Susan. Im wondering where you bought the very large “welcome “ mold you mentioned? Also I just watched a HDC video using a spray bottle of soap&water to spray your molds with just before you pour. 😉. Very informative video, you covered everything. 💕

I wear a face respirator when I make my stones. Hard to film wearing a mask though. If I have the garage door open I don’t wear it. I have also asked my Health Care Provider about gypsum and they were not concerned about gypsum…I found that odd so I just protect myself regardless 🤷‍♀️
