@@MGSVxBreakpoint he's obviously not schizophrenic, otherwise none of this would make sense and it wouldn't have been edited together so smoothly. This is just a talent. I don't know what you're talking about with "encouraging schizophrenia", because that has never been a non serious mental illness.
@kecukraftwork19883 жыл бұрын
@@MGSVxBreakpoint First of all, your understanding of psychosis is appalling. What you're alluding to is not schizophrenia. Get that Hollywood ignorance out of your head. Schizophrenia =/= an individual physically enacting multiple identities; that would be closer to MPD - most recent known as DID. Schizophrenics that *do* experience cases of another embodiment, typically suffer with disembodied voices. Sometimes this is coupled with hallucinatory images of the voices (such as if the TV is speaking to them solely), but in most cases it is not; it is often isolated within the person's mind, and presents itself as a separate entity to the person with the condition. Even with DID, whereby a person possesses an unstable identity and may appear to be as two or more wholly different people at separate intervals, the two or more "personalities" might not get along, or may not even know the other exists. I've never heard of a case whereby they would try to interact and live out scenarios via video and editing - though that'd certainly make an interesting case study. So you'd be stretching it by a country mile even if you were to say that Joel's videos are evident of DID. Second of all, men have been dressing up as women in theatre, pantomime and film for years; longer than any of us have been alive. They've sometimes even taken up the role of the female love interest. Not sure about you, but if I was aiming for this particular style of humour, I'd rather film myself as my own love interest, than have to convince my male buddy to wear a dress, so that I might pretend to be his boyfriend and then publish it online. Third of all, Joel being his own girlfriend is part of the humour and charm. Like Caleb pretending to be (near enough) the only person to exist in his universe. Either get counselling for your sexual confusion, or take the joke for what it is.

Most KZbinrs are sitting in their rooms playing games, doing makeup, watching videos, etc and talking to a camera like its another person that they're having an conversation with. If you look at that in a literal sense then you think "Holy shit they're crazy" but if you look at it with the knowledge of what they're actually doing (making content for youtube) then they don't seem like crazy people. Joel is literally just acting which just so happens to be a skill. Pretty sure acting has never been considered a schizo exclusive activity.

@@yerpderp6800 I mean in the end it might not actually reflect anything from how they see relationships in real life. There's also a strong aspect of media having its own language, and it's assumed that a shot with this much importance put into it would advance the plot in some way. Which is also what makes this film so good, because on one hand you can interpret as a story with a plot that progresses or at least indicates a progression for the story, and on the other hand you can see it as a film without a plot. What I mean is that the plot boils down to just the word relationship, because that's all that happens. It's more of a collection of moments throughout a relationship that have no importance whatsoever to anyone outside the characters, including the audience. Which is genius because in order to see a story that you care about here, you are forced to empathize with the characters to imagine what these moments mean to them, and thus giving a huge amount of value to these characters (who are nameless, wink wink) and their story - because in a way, it's your own.

Joel, I can't explain how perfectly you express imperfect people, how easily you make the audience relate to the characters and eventually even love them. The slight facial expressions, the weird but real humor, and above it all, the awkwardness of having a conversation with someone you don't really know yet. Your amazing acting skills, making me forget those 2 characters aren't really different people and somehow through it all, you even managed to capture the raw and basic need for love and affection! You made me miss a feeling I've never had, and to do that, while playing a woman in a wig, is just astonishing and blows my mind. You are truly a talented and amazing content and movie maker (I cant even start to explain how much I loved Pretend That You Love Me). Thank you for sharing your amazing sketches with us and for making my all time favorite KZbin video right here. Much love

Joel has an uncanny ability to mimic the smallest of faux pas in social interactions. He's clearly a very observant listener and it shows itself in his comedy;)

It's insane how he has such impeccable comedic timing and banter with.. himself. Lol it's like he's truly feeding off the energy of his co-star, but it's just him. That takes insane vision, to be so deliberate about both parts. And for it to be funny as hell too haha the man's a genius. Reminds me of an old favorite, job interview. Wonder what that German chap Wu is up to..

It’s so heartwarming and genuine even with how ridiculous it looks. Joel has this incredible ability to depict the awkward, bizarre, or unnatural things, determined by society, as perfectly comfortable things that are to be taken with equal seriousness.. all while taking nothing seriously at all!! It’s the kind of quality that it takes to talk to a stranger and help someone you don’t even know have a better day. It’s quite commendable, and if he were to ever read this, I would tell him that this is a quality I greatly value and look up to him for. I hope to bring the same quality to others some day.

You’ve described it very well. I guess that’s what a kind and truly free person is like - they’re natural with a stranger (not helpless or relying on cliches only in a totally new situation). They see things through all the layers, and they can use those layers and cliches consciously. Takes a great and open mind also. Hard to put into words but yes...it’s a way of thinking I’d like to learn.

I did that once before on a lets play video of an abstract horror indie game set in an office. I let over half the video play out on my spare monitor, before I realised my goof. I thought the excruciatingly slow pace, awkward jerky animation, and horribly distorted/mechanical sounding voices was just a deliberate part of the horror. It had this awful claustrophobic feeling, being trapped both in space and time, in the monotony of office life. I was actually kinda disappointed when I realised and fixed the playback speed. ^ ^;
