You can use the Cricut easy press for iron on vinyl. I think you would need the easy press 2 or later for sublimation due to the heat required. I have noticed that over time, a few of my trivets are getting fuzzy (for lack of a better word). They used to be crisp and clear and now they are a little muddy over time. Wondering if you have any input about what I could be doing wrong. Thanks in advance.
@MakingwithMarilyn Жыл бұрын
I think it is a result of the hack. I believe the ink migrates a bit in the vinyl over time. For a hack, I think it is a great project, but I would not sell these due to that issue. If it gets to where you do not want to use it, you can soak it for a long time and get the vinyl off to make another one.

If you want it for decoration only, it might work to put it on the back (smooth) side since once the adhesive powder cures, it is pretty clear. Even for just decoration, I feel like it would not stick well to the pebbly textured top. If you try it, I would love to hear about your results!

I had bought a different spray adhesive that was repositional. The vinyl went on perfect but after i pressed it bubbles appeared. Does this happen with rapid tack?
@MakingwithMarilyn10 ай бұрын
Rapid tac isn't really an adhesive, it is just a liquid that helps you be able to move your adhesive around before you heat it to the surface you are putting it on. As. long as you squeegee out all of the liquid, the vinyl goes on smoothly. But, you do have to make sure you squeegee it all out, just like when you are removing air from under the vinyl. I think I may have shown a close up of this cutting board after using the rapid tac. It was very very smooth.

@MakingwithMarilyn2 жыл бұрын
Someone asked me about that awhile back so I got it out and looked at it. It's possible that it has faded a little, but nothing really noticeable. I assume if you use it as a heating block, it would fade from the heat. I don't sell mine and I often pull the vinyl off (after letting it soak in water a few hours and it's still tough to get off) after a few months to put a new design on, so it would not bother me if it were to fade given the inexpensiveness of it.

Thanks so much for sharing. Do you have to mirror your sublimation image?
@MakingwithMarilyn2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Since you are putting the image on the bottom and it is coming up through the vinyl, you do not mirror it.

Hopefully these cutting boards are safe to heat. And not causing stress and cracking to happen at a later date.
@MakingwithMarilyn3 жыл бұрын
I haven't had any problems with any that I have done. If eventually one that cracks, the vinyl will keep it from falling all apart and being dangerous and I have very little money in it. However, if you aren't comfortable, they do make actual sublimation cutting boards that you can buy from companies like Conde (DyeTrans), etc. that you could use. Always a good idea to be cautious.

are teflon sheets reusable?
@MakingwithMarilyn2 жыл бұрын
Yes they are so long as you don’t get sublimation ink or other things that could transfer back to other projects on them. I protect them with cheap uncoated butcher paper and have used the same Teflon sheets for a few years. Thank you for watching!

Can this be done with an iron if you don't have a heat press?
@MakingwithMarilyn2 жыл бұрын
I have never tried it with an iron, but if the iron gets hot enough and you can apply quite a bit of pressure and keep track of time, it seems like it could work. If you try it, please let me know if it is successful. Thanks for watching!

Good, informative video. I just want to add that normally with sublimation printing you would reverse/mirror the image before printing but with this method/item you do not reverse/mirror it....not sure if you mentioned that. Great job.

Thank you! I am not sure if I did but even if I did, repetition is a good thing when learning new concepts:) Thanks for watching!

Could you leave the cutting board overnight before removing the sublimation? I'd like to do a few at a time, production line style.

I am not totally sure, but I imagine you could. If you try one out to test it, let us know how it works out and I am sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Has your images blurred after a few months?
@MakingwithMarilyn Жыл бұрын
I have had this for a couple of years now and it has blurred some. It is still pretty, but not the crisp image it started as. Thanks for watching!

Ok- two questions- should I mirror my image before I print it off onto my sub paper? And two- if I don’t have the spray tack- will this project still be doable? Can I just use water and a little dish soap like you suggested? If yes- what water to soap ratio?
@MakingwithMarilyn2 жыл бұрын
No, you do not mirror your image. I know that seems odd because we are trained to always mirror our images:) I have seen that water with a tiny bit of soap works but have not tried it. I just watched a video that said a few drops of dawn liquid in a cup of water but I bet there are a lot of videos that discuss their ratios. I started making these without applying wet, which is doable, but you will likely end up with more air bubbles. I hope yours turns out well! Just try to get all water and all air out because when you heat it up, any air/water trapped in there will expand.

Just soak in plain water. If it doesn't start lifting easy, give it more time to soak. No soap needed. Also, use a mild scrubby under running water to clean off the milky residue leftover from the sub paper.

I can't find if you mention what kind of printer you use to print your image. I have converted an Epson ET2720 to a sublimation printer. Would that work with the TexPrint R paper?
@MakingwithMarilyn3 жыл бұрын
I used an Epson 2760 that I converted to sublimation. Yes, your printer will work with the TexPrint R paper. TexPrint has a couple different papers, and someone else told me that the other one (the one I did not use) sticks to the vinyl. So, be sure to purchase the paper used in the video if you decide to get some and let it cool down some before you pull the paper off. Otherwise, it will stretch your hot vinyl. Thanks for watching!!!
