Great review, as usual. Ty. You answered all my questions. I particularly like the on-site drillings.

You can get chucks for using normal wood bits. Or masonry bits that aren’t sds. But what I’ve found is those rotary hammers with the chuck adapter work greats for hole saws. They ratchet instead of twisting your wrist. I’ve used these often for metal panels. I’ve repacked grease on the bulldog. It’s tricky with the selector switch when reassembly. Especially before KZbin.

Great vid. thank you. I've used my friends Bosch so I am curious to how they actually compare to each other. We use a 1-1/2" wide flat bit to remove tile from concrete floors and I am wondering which would be faster. The Bosch gets really hot at the gearbox after an hour of use doing that.

Try HR2663 Makita 800w, 2.9J. Great stuff, robust and I bet better than bulldog

Thanks for this great review -- really well done! I just ordered the Makita 2475 after being disappointed with my wonderful (NOT) HF 1-1/8 SDS Plus model with only about an hour in it before failure to keep the bit spinning (the sliding collar is stupidly molded from PLASTIC ONLY to fit tightly over the ball bearings that go into ther bit slots; the slightest widening of that collar area in normal use will allow the balls to move out radially just a smidge, enough for the slightest bit torque to stop rotation and give a loud chatter instead. I'm hoping the Makita sliding collar assembly has something far stronger and more precise holding the ball bearings to the bit slots). PS - Regarding the lockon switch of the Makita...maybe a low profile washer -- say 2-3mm thick -- glued on as a sort of guard surrounding the button would help? I was thinking a nylon washer with the outer part beveled down for comfort?

How do you like the makita now that you got it?
@AerialLensVideo
@AerialLensVideo 2 жыл бұрын
@@danjimielson Although I only have a little over an hour giving it good challenges, 10 out of 10. The capture mechanism is built really strong. Powerful, reliable (well it is new), and very lightweight, and no heating up that I noticed. Also, excellent low price compared wiith other big brands.

I couldn't agree more about hammer drills. I do have a cordless hammer drill, and I have had occasion to use the hammer-drill setting and been glad it was there, but if I have even one deep hole to drill in masonry, I go get my Bulldog Xtreme. The other thing I've noticed is that hammer drills are much harder on masonry bits than rotary hammers - I had a big HF hammer drill years ago (before I got my first rotary hammer) and it went through bits like crazy, as well as hardly drilling holes. When I got my first rotary hammer (a cheapo HF model) 20 years ago, I did so because I needed to drill a couple of dozen 7/8 in holes in a concrete slab for anchors, and based on my previous experience I bought 10 bits. To my surprise, each hole took less than a minute, and I returned 9 of the bits (and the 10th one is still usable today).

@Tom Garbo I've had predictable experience with cheap masonry bits, but my old hammer drill would destroy even good quality bits, as well as taking forever to drill holes in concrete. It was a revelation to use even a cheapo HF rotary hammer. Bosch has some bits that are supposed to stand up to drilling into rebar, and I think they help, although I'm not 100% sure (I was attaching a gazebo to a patio last summer and broke some Dewalt bits and switched to the Bosch and it stopped - I think I was hitting rebar on one row of masonry bolts).

Maybe somebody here can help me I do tile and just recently started getting paid by the job so I was thinking about getting a rotary hammer to do the tear outs instead of using a hammer and chisel but I'm not sure if I should go with the SDS plus or SDS Max

An SDS plus hammer will do the job, but for raw destructive capability you can't beat an SDS Max hammer

Are you an engineer or a trades person with many many years as a tradie ? Have you looked in side each tool ? If not why not. Did you take it to a job site again a ? The past is no reflection on the future. People need to know. Functionality plain and simple. A pig in a dress and lippy is still a pig. Questions need to be asked good or bad. If someone sees you review and buys a perceived better product and latter finds it not to be dog you just fucked that person over.
