She's finally here! The tiny yet powerful Makita DHR183 is a brand new model and a great addition to Makita's tiny SDS hammer line-up, but how does she fit in? let's find out!
Alternate names:
HR140 = RH02
HR166 = RH01
DHR 171 = XRH06
DHR182 = XRH12
DHR183 will probably be XHR13

When started my own business, i haven't a lot of money and took the DHR182. And four years after he's here, best little hammer so far for me. Tough, one-handed, surprisly powerful, not pricy. It is a must have for 18v makita platform. Thanks Makita.

Yeah it's a really amazing little hammer. One of the best ever made for sure!

Also DHRXX3 usually has the quick chuck change feature. Not a requirement for most folks as when the tools breaks it is no longer their problem

Hi, out of interest, any idea where the DHR242Z (or 243Z) would sit compared against the 182/183? Thanks

Hopefully Makita in the future in this small cordless rotary hammer line can eliminate the passive hammer (when the machine is pressed, the hammer operates) and replace it with an active hammer (the hammer still works even without pressing the machine) because Drilling with a passive hammer over head for long time is a tiring thing with constant pressing
@BoltahDownunder
@BoltahDownunder 10 ай бұрын
yeah I'm not sure why they do the passive hammer, but Hikoki also does in their small hammers so there must be some reason. Is dry hammering such a problem? I wouldn't think so. There must be some cost saving there, like the small drills have some delicate part in there that might break, or some other cost/benefit math they're doing

Awesome video! I really liked how easy the 171 was to control with one hand. Would you expect the 183 to be harder to control because of its faster speed?
@BoltahDownunder
@BoltahDownunder 9 ай бұрын
Nah it seems fine! The basis for the 171 was the 12V hammers, which in Japan they marketed as a diy kinda tool, so I think they were just playing it really safe for that
@ruheluddin9588

when I use mine it seems to wobble. Is this normal? If you look at the drill bit closely and just drill, my drill bit appears to not turn in a perfect circle. Ive test the bits they are fine, it is definitely the SDS. It does drill holes ok but I wondered if this was normal or whether I would drill better if this was a fault?

Really great video. Would be nice to see makita 40v xgt as that is what platform I am in now I am trying to decide if the new smallest 40v is the way to go
@BoltahDownunder
@BoltahDownunder 10 ай бұрын
Cheers! I just got the little 40v and so far she seems really, really good for the size. But I haven't got the timing data yet so can't say exactly how good. Should be done soon, but meanwhile think about what size holes you're going to be drilling and if it's mostly like 12mm ish then the little one should be fine, and mostly like 16 or above go a bigger one

Not sure if you've already seen it, but he just tested the small XGT (HR010G). It is a very good tool and beats even the LXT DHR182 and DHR242. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKjFmZeBisyHnrc

I didn't test dhr183 so far but when it came out it was obvious makita made just a perfect one, it's a compact size but still has power for making small holes, the only one that must be upgraded in lxt line is dhr242 it's so old and don't have anti vibration system which is critical in 2023
@shifty277

Great video! I'm considering also buying 182 for it's power and overall characteristics. How about 202? Differences?
@BoltahDownunder
@BoltahDownunder 3 ай бұрын
I haven't tried the 202 but it's a very old, brushed model that probably can't compete with the 182 unless you're just doing diy level work

@@BoltahDownunder thanks. I will probably go for the 182. I also like the newer 183, but I saw in your comparison that's weaker.

the table you can see above the graph at times? That's the data for the graph: Make, Model, Run1-4, mean. I add new drills to each test so it still has the old ones on there also

@BoltahDownunder 10 ай бұрын
I usually do 4, so if there's one screwed up we still get 3. You know, drill wonky, hit a void in the concrete, depth rod slides up... There's lots of things that can screw up a run so it's good to have a spare

Hi from Canada Nice video, and some good insights on this drill. Seen one at the local big box store, thought about getting one Ohhh btw an 8mm drill bit is pretty much same size as a 5/16" drill bit. We use both up here.
