Congrats on the vac and chip! My saws and dust extractor are the non chip version so I have to hit the big power button with my foot! Amazing how well the dust extractors work, especially with the old corded cement board circ saw. Alnost no dust gets away, I can't stand cutting that stuff without it!

Thanks , been waiting on a hood review of this exact vac . Looks perfect to me . All I’d recommend is You need a plain commercial hard floor tool , they vac concrete so easy and cheap to buy , I hardly ever use supplied vac heads . Great review 👍👍👍👍😎😊

Well I'm sold! I wasn't sure with with suction figures down dramatically from the non-AWS wet/dry version, but it looks like it still sucks good. I still think they should bring out a cordless vacuum with auto-clean though.

I sure am glad that I use a dust separator when doing wood working. Never have to clean out my vacuum, just dump the bucket. I have a portable one I made using the Dusttopper. AWS would be great but the only tool I have right now is the LXTx2 miter saw. I use a remote control to turn on the vacuum, and a lot of times I forget. If Makita made one of these that operated as a dust separator, I'd be all over it.

I have a corded festool and have Milwaukee cordless tools but dam that vacuum looks like it has a ton of power. The 40V makita system is super nice. That vacuum is a nice size and the rubber bumper is a nice touch too. Was just looking up the 40V prices here in Canada they are almost 2x the price of the Milwaukee 18V system.

Great review as always. Thanks a lot. One thing that really annoys me about makita twin battery tools or tools with a battery status indicator. The indicator on the tool only has 3 bars, where the batteries all have 4. Why Makita? Why? Just make them match ffs.

Better still, allow a duel battery/mains option as them 40v 8amp batteries are extremely expensive.... i think around $400 each and you need atleast 4, 2 on charge and 2 being used..... 40 mins runtime, 76 miins charge time, so you have to wait 40 mins before you can work again, unless you buy another 4 batteries giving 86 mins runtime, and 76 mins charge time...... thats 8 x $400 ($3,200 at todays prices).... plus $1,000 for machine or whatever it costs in u.s.a, plus 🤣 the cost of them white bags that dont fully fill and leave a mess if you rip them by sucking up something sharp...... Go buy one of them bagless cylinder vacumes....... or a Henry with 4,000watts of corded power..... no electricity? Then buy a little generator.... Happy days, as i would want to walk into "home depot" with a fresh claim for replacement on 8 batteries that have been overheated and worn out every 6 or 8 months..... them little aa batteries inside them packs can only take so much, and full discharge of a 40v 8amp battery every 40 mins all day for 6 months really burns them out......... and i guess at $3,200 per set of 8, how many times will "home depot" allow a warrenty claim on smoked batteries every 6 to 8 months?...... you will be lucky once or twice, then you will have to keep buyin new yearly, and try to claim on those gurantees.... that machine over 6 years could cost you $10,000 in replacement batteries (8 every 2 years)....... or a bagless vacume that allows water spilladge at $100? and lasts 3 years?.....

I can't believe that in 2022 we still have crappy 3-bar battery indicators rather than a % display. Makita must have ordered 100 million of those 3-bar LEDs and has to spend the next 20 years using them up. Don't get me started on chargers and deciphering the various blinks.

meh it’s not like you look at your battery percentage everytime. theses tools actually made our work much faster, it doesnt hurt you to push a single button to look how much battery you have left, by that i mean how many seconds will you lose from pressing.. 2 secs??

Brilliant 👍 About time someone did a decent video on the new 40v extractors 👏 Could you please , please do a comparison between the 40v and the 36v as i bought the DVC157 last year , turns out the 40v was released 6 onths later but the 40v seems to be twice as powerful as my DVC157 won't pull the skin off a rice pudding when its on full power . Thanks for your comment, I was wondering to buy old 157 because of the batteries etc I didn't want to buy 40v and spend a lot of money... in deed seems to me that VC004 is very powerful and I will decide for that eventually. But 2.5amp battery in the kit holds for maybe 15min on max sucking option :/

It does not have to be M class with shaking filters and alarms like DCV586 (not everyone needs it / works on building sites) something that you can use in a workshop or take it to customers house without making constant alarm noises and filters banging every 30 seconds. Just bought the 2 gallon version of this in the kit from Acme tools so I can get the extra battery they are running as part of the promo. Real damn pricey to say the least, but hoping it's worth it. Dropped 1.3K on this + the little 40v XGT blower that everyone raves about. The run time you showed on this is a bit worrisome as well tbh. We'll see how it goes. Wish it had dual battery/outlet option for power.

43 mins (like the bigger version of this vaccume) but 76 mins to charge those batteries on 2 chargers..... To have it work continually, you need 4 40v 8 amp batteries giveing 86 mins runtime, and 4 more batteries charging in 4 chargers which take 76 mins to charge...... To empty a 40v 8 amp battery in 43 mins means they get really hot (as seen)..... i cant imadgine what damadge is being done to the batteries being "fast charged" then emptied in 43 mins ??????? 8 x 40v 8amp batteries and 4 chargers being used continually all day, to just suck up wood chips..... $400 per battery = $3,200 plus 4 fast charge chargers (don't know that cost lets say $300?) then the cost of machine $1,000 that equals $4,500 I paid in the UK, £35 for my corded black and decker bagless cylinder 3,000 watt vacume cleaner, works all day, no bags, just empty every hour as its smaller in size, but holds more then them white bags, and a lot less mess everywhere........ £35 has got to be around $40~? ...... perhaps cheeper for you as its american made....... Suction is around 30% less, but works fine, with more attachments, (3kw motor is good), with pethair and heppa filtering in what looks like a small car engine oil filter which is reusable 🙂.... never needed a new filter in the 3 years ive used the machine becuse i clean the filter with a soft brush and clean the secondary filter weekly...... $40 or $4,500, and replace bags at whatever cost + replace batteries after 1 year if they last that long..... if your using them constantly 10 hours per day, they will need replacing (8 of them) every 6 months under warrenty) How many "hits" of $3,200 loss will your retailer take before refusing to exchange them?..... same with manufacrurer claims....? Then after 2 or so years.... you will have to pay $3,200 6 months later again, and then use that guarantee to keep claiming replacements.... In 6 years, that machine (if they keep allowing you to pull on the warranty will cost you 3,200 every 2 years, or $10,000 over 6 years.....) in that time, i expect my £35 vacume to break down and need replacing due to motor clog up like the last one...... my guarantee is 3 years..... and ive never had to claim on that...... (i bet the "white makita bags" for 1 month cost more then my bagless machine)...... Make your mind up..... $10k over 6 years, or $80 over 6 years ?...... It does look very nice though 🙂 P.s, i shouldn't suck up liquids with my machine, but i have done, no problem if im carefull....... for bigger spils, i use my vax carpet washer/cleaner which is ok for that... (£78, which is about $90~? and only used a few times 5? In 3 years)...... bagless ofcourse being a washer..... total vacume costs about $170 all in, no additional monthly makita bag tax, and i can do just as much as this machine can in my 2 machines 🙂👍🏻❤️....... No electricity?..... i can buy a petrol generator and that will power either or both vaccumes at a very low cost, but ive never been in that position ever 🙂👍🏻..... enjoy your Makita machine, as some of us who do charity work for the elderly cant afford 10k over 6 years in vaccumes and batteries that heat up and could cause a fire.....

great review as per usual 👍. i got the 40v router and put the guide bushing on that it came with and the bushing was 1mm out of centre with the bit and it moves around. shocked at how bad it was. did you notice yours being out?

I bought this and regretted it. I needed a more heavy duty wet vac for pulling water out of carpets after plumbing emergencies... This did not cut the mustard! After I had wasted my money on this, they released the 80v model, which I didn't buy because I was so annoyed by the whole ordeal

Not for me, the batteries are just too darn expensive. I love my Makita 40V tools, but I will never get a vac that needs batteries that cost around 600-800 bucks. No. Way. If you could use it with 2 2,5Ah batteries easy, as in charging on pack while the other is in the vac than okay, I might be in the market but I don't want to ruin my batteries by cycling it that much. Hopefully there are gonn'be some trust worthy long term reviews with smaller capacity batts in the next couple a months. Maybe even on this channel??

Congrats on the video. I'm a fan of Makita. All my tools are from Makita l8nha 18V, I have a specific complaint about Makita: she doesn't have a hybrid vacuum cleaner with Bluetooth and that, in my opinion, is against Makita. I dream of one day being taken care of.

You only have 40 mins of work time before batts go flat and take 76 mins to charge up...... poi tless using it as you have to wait before using your power tools again..... unless you want mess everywhere, which defeats the point of buying that vaccume... Maybe a corded option is better, no electricity then buy a little generator or a caravaning 12 volt to 110 volt converter and run the corded vaccume off your truck?.....

I got mine six months ago and just love it. One thing I don't know is how to roll up the smaller hose. It just doesn't want to roll up. The other annoying thing is when one battery starts to run low it seems to be down on power for a while before it changes over.

Have always wanted the cordless Makita ,but the capacity on them is terrible . The 9 gallon Ridgid (or AEG? ),holds so much more. I install cabinetry ,tracksaw,and mitersaw,and clean up create a high volume of dust. Paid $100 US for the first one,paid $65 for the second on clearance . The latter is being moved to the packout rolling cart, and will be running m18 batteries . The current daily use,is running on Makita batteries . My pet peeves are changing bags,and not enough charged batteries 3# 2.5,16# 5ahr.

Bet the batteries dont last long, i heard 15 mins for the 2.5 amp ones...... thats very little work time using 2 x 2.5 amp batteries..... Ever considered a corded vaccume and maybe a little gennie if theres no electric?..... (but there must be electric, as how are you recharging your batteries evey 15 mins which takes near to an hour, so thats loss of work time before you can use a power tool that needs a vacume).....

Been using the makita AWS External wiring harness on my plug-in festool vac and gotta say it sucks because the run time of the vac when triggered by the saw is way too short. Getting one of these this afternoon so hope it’s an improvement.

I have it’s twin brother…. 003 or something. More powerful but no AWS. I turn it on manually and it’s fine for me when I have a few cuts to make. The one thing I wanted to learn is how to wrap the hose around the damned thing when in storage.

it's possible to get 5m hoses from Japan and grey jointers for hoses. The AC AWS relievers can be daisy chained to one vacuum to extend coverage or an extension cord can be used to keep the vacuum in a different room. Metabos solution ìs better for bigger tools that are ac and draw too much power.

They still dont offer a wet/dry with AWS as far as I can tell. Still need a better option to be honest. XGT, Wet&Dry, Hepa, AWS, AC cord, with Plug socket output, M/H class, 8L/15L options.... until then this is BS from makita really.... some of the XGT tools seem like they're lazy on design. The plunge saw depth stop is just a real let down, and things like that.

Makita need to make an AWS power point/socket so you can plug in your existing dust collector in and run it with the AWS tools. Their AWS vacuums are so expensive. Not worth the outlay in my opinion.

well if you get the chance to speak to makita again... try to ask them what is happening with that special "in-between" battery pack module thingy. that lets you program the tool with different modes / settings / speeds etc. would be nice to know if it hasn't been scrapped / canceled then when they expect to be launching it. this year / next year. or really any infos about it. would be great thanks so much

@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL thanks so much for jogging my memory here... yes indeed was it. seems to be called the Makita ADP11 A-73879 Communication Adapter. and i can see is already available for sale to japanese market and also internationally on ebay for $111. huh... seems like perhaps they are not planning to release it more broadly to international market. or in fact to work for any other tools? i suppose that makes sense if the tool itself needs to actually be designed to be programmable by this adapter. oh well nevermind then. just remembered it and wondered what happened there with it. my memory wasn't so great remembering the details. still plenty of other cool new 40v stuff keeps coming. thanks so much for clearing that one up

If you have a tool connected with the Bluetooth and the battery dies, do you have to reconnect it once you put in a new battery?

If the battery dies on the tool, when you replace it you just need to push the AWS button on the tool, not the vac. If you change battery on the vac it will automatically connect to any activated tools.

A shop vac is for floor cleanup of sawdust etc. A dust extractor is designed specifically for tool hook up. They can be used interchangeably, but if you you're connected to a tool often, you will really appreciate the direct tool/auto start plug in. You can get aftermarket auto plugs to use with a shop vac, but a dedicated dust extractor is nicer to use.

Great video.. There’s no doubt it’s a great extraction unit … but tut tut makita you ain’t gonna sell many in the Uk to carpenters especially, if it’s nots m class . No m class no work , in the Uk . Shame .. cordless festool midi it is .. £900 with 4 x 5.2 amp batteries. If you can get free tools of festool for your channel to review. You know you’ve made it … 😆👍🏼

@Jack Esplin yes your correct on that , festool are the same all there vacs use the same filters , it’s just the alarm that gives it the m class rating . It’s the L class sticker on the unit , unfortunately that causes the problem.

AWS will connect to up to 10 tools at once, then when number 11 is added, it drops the first one you connected, and so on.

He gives very good advise but, you really need too brush up on what means what when it comes too the batteries, ampage or amp means the longevity of the battery, and volts is the power of the battery, more amps does not mean more power it means the battery will last longer and does not give more power, power comes from the volts,not the amps

Once again you only have half the facts and knowledge. You are mixing Amps and Amp hours up for starters. The Amps the batteries can put out varies from battery to battery, especially when you start comparing 18650 cells to 21700 cells, as well as the fact that the 5Ah and 8Ah use twice as many cells, so put out more power. Voltage doesn't = power, Amps do. Ah = runtime. But these days with modern battery tech, many higher Ah batteries are putting out more Amps due to the cells being used and the amount of them.
