Been using the 36v version (dhs782zj) for the past couple of years. Such a great tool! So much versatility and glass like cuts. I have the guard pinned back and manually plunge to the depth I require, it's so quick to switch between materials, depths etc.

Just committed and bought my first 40v kit, which is the HS004, with rails, 2x 2.5 batteries etc. Been needing a cordless circular saw for ages and also been wanting a plunge saw. This video really helped me with the decision. These tools are expensive so I was more than happy to spend once and get a tool that does 2 jobs. Saved me money not having to also buy a plunge saw. Cheers

If you need more power and runtime in the future, try to go for a 5Ah over a 4Ah.

@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL Thanks man, appreciate that. I had watched your battery video this morning which again was really helpful too. I'm also in need of a new mitre saw and torn between a corded unit or the 40v. 40V unit is about double the price here in the UK (£900) with 2 2.5ah. Can't get any kits here with the 5ah. Swaying to the 40v as I work between two locations. Will continue to go through your past videos!

Makes so much sense to just add that groove into the base like they have done. When I bought mine I'm pretty sure there was only one other option out there - that massive one that can do 100mm in one pass. What would be nice is a lock to hold the blade guard open when you're running it on a track.

Cool to see Rob on your channel. I think KZbin started to recommend me all these NZ builders because of your channel. Regarding the new base, I actually reached out to Makita to swap out the base and they wouldn’t give me the part number. Said that the GSH02Z track base wouldn’t fit the GSH01Z base. The crazy thing is the bases seem pretty comparable but the 02Z is $100 more. 🤷‍♂️

I have the DHS900Z and it's phenomenal. Couldn't rate it high enough. Massive depth of cut with tons of power. Always use it on the track and the cuts are perfect. I've been cutting 2 inch English oak and it just gluides through it. Definitely the best saw buy I've made. Much love from the UK

Im located in Australia and bought the base from USA over a year ago and swapped it on my HS003 before the HS004 was released here. Was a very straight forward swap. Cost me way less than a new saw and I did it a year earlier

What was the part number for the new base? I emailed makita if I could swap the base instead of buying a brand new tool, and they said it was not compatible which seems insane.

I'd hate to think how much I've spent on Festool tracks alone. For anyone about to make a choice on track saw brands I'd like to point out the massive price difference between Festool and Makita tracks. Today locally for me in Oz a 3m Festool track would cost $790 whereas the virtually identical Makita is $269. Over a decade ago Festool had a unique innovation advantage and you chose to pay the premium to get the benefits .. these days they still make a few unique things and their "systems integration" is quite clever, BUT other brands have caught up a lot and none more so that Makita in my opinion. I still think the cross cut rail is something that Makita need to take a stab at to complete their guide rail systems. Today Makita outstrips Festool in a couple of areas .. a very significant one being depth of cut on a rail. Not only can Makita do 100mm cuts with their new 270mm cordless track compatible saw .. for the price of a Festool 3m rail alone you can buy BOTH a Makita 3m rail AND the Makita 270mm cordless saw skin! I have a massive investment in Festool tools and I'm not about to ditch any of them. Makita to me is a very natural choice to compliment the Festool range (or vice versa depending on your starting position). Heck, even the Makpac cases are compatible with the original Festool Systainers!

I'm an apprentice carpenter and I was in exactly the same position as you a few weeks ago. I only had the 18V drill combo and was looking to buy a bunch of power tools and was tossing up between 18V and 40V. I ended up going for a 6 piece 40V kit and I'm pretty happy with my decision. There is, blade widths vary from saw to saw and from manufacturer to manufacturer. I only use my 36V Makita track saw on my Makita tracks with a 2.2mm kerf blade. I have my eyes on that Japanese 40V 165mm circ saw. I might get another 1.4m track and the adapter.
