What are you not fond of concerning the blower? I recently changed over my lawn equipment from Stihl gas to Makita's XGT and snagged the blower and chainsaw (exact models in this video) on clearance. The XGT blower without a doubt is one of my favorite tools in a long while. It is so smooth and refined. I swapped out the downward facing nozzle for the flat sweep tip and the effect was dramatic. The sweep end produced a lot of torque back on your wrist, whereas the downward facing nozzle produced enough lift to make for a very balanced operation. The power is great in my opinion even in the non-turbo mode. We have a Milwaukee dual M18 blower at work and while it is indeed powerful, it isn't near as ergonomic and refined as the Makita. I've heard people complain about the power button, and though it is one more step to operate, it beats the hell out of choking and starting a gas blower. If the power button is such a hindrance, maybe the users shouldn't be doing their own lawn maintenance :). Perhaps Makita included the switch to keep the blower from suddenly operating upon insertion of the battery if the trigger hold switch is engaged. I've never used the 18v model that lacks the power switch so can't speak to that. I had really hoped that your modification would have worked. The timeout on the chainsaw is aggravating for sure. Proper use of the chain brake negates this safety measure but we can always thank careless end users and corporate lawyers for these measures. Great video!

Considering the components look to be otherwise identical I would imagine the timer is part of it, the different plug preventing them from getting mixed up in the factory or when sourcing replacement parts. You could probably temporarily hook it up using something like dupont jumper leads, then if it does work instead of spending the time to cut and resolder both components just order a replacement blower component and swap the connector on that one to fit the chainsaw.

Interesting use for the safe torques. Can you please review the safe torque ratchet?

You should just get a new set of female/male matching plugs and make a little jumper/adapter so you can swap them over without altering the factory ones.

This reminds me of when I was doing some modifications to my Saturn car. The physical hazard light switch in the dashboard contained all of the timing circuits for the turn signal. The turn signal switch on the steering wheel just sent a signal to the hazard switch. So if you unplugged the hazard switch, no turn signals!

I have the DUB184 leaf blower and thankfully it doesn't have an on/off button but I do have the DJV184 jig saw which does have the power button. It stays on for 10 seconds and I do find it a bit annoying. About 8 years ago I got a Tiger electric water heater, made in Japan. It has an on button that stays on for about 5 seconds. For that I can definitely see the reason for it especially if you have small kids around. The on/off switch with a timer seems to be a common thing with Japanese products.

I would be curious if the Japanese models have the same issue, eg is this a safety feature required by some governmental agency in US or another country. Sometimes export models are limited for that reason.
