This is the perfect video for one of (I think) the most occuring problems with Makitas. Most videos just say, replace the trigger, but it is a 35 euro item, and for most older machines, not worth buying it. Have just fixed two Makitas thanks to your video!! A very old DTD 136 (15/20 years? bought it second hand) and a BTD 146, just used a lot of contact spray, pressed the switch 20 times, and don’t forget to change the lever from left to right a couple of times. But after that, both worked perfect again! Thank you very much!

Yup, I’ve had 2 Makita impacts with trigger issues so far.

Thanks, this worked for my brushless DTD153 too. There is a rubber bellows protecting the internals of the trigger from dirt. Pulled that back and hit it with contact cleaner. No more shitty speed control.

good show. short and precise. some of the comments confirm that this trick fixed theirs too. i think this is an answer to two of my drivers. one has the same problem as yours, the other works then doesnt yet the brushes seem to be very good. i'll try the trick on both of them. a drill i had years ago lost the variable function and i thought it was because the diode/heat sink thing failed. i might give that one a go too

That cleaner is great. I use it on whatever needs a good metal contact, such as AA batteries Inside my remote. I’ve had to use thr spray on the Makita drill again, but I found just spraying it behind the trigger without opening up the drill works fine too.

@@chicagohandyman , i had no luck drowning the 2 makita driver switches in cleaner. then about 2 hours later i accidentally pushed on the switch of the driver with the totally dead switch and it has come good!. so i am keeping it close at hand and i give the trigger a pull every once in a while to make sure it is still working and it is. success! i'll have another go on the other one.

Can you check and tell if trigger top contacts (wich get connected to motor brushes) are not shortened in normal open position, when trigger is not pressed. I got beep on multimeter when check them. And looks like after press trigger contacts to battery get shortened aswell, and battery without protection get overloaded and start smell.

I have a white one which doesn't slow with electronic braking like the one you show does after the trigger is releases, it slows down to a stop a bit more like an old drill would. Any ideas what the problem is?

Hi, my machine had a similar problem, the sensitivity function did work but sometimes the trigger did not work at al, no matter how much I pressed the trigger, after doing this cleaning its a bit better but it still does not work 40% of the time, I tested the power input at the trigger which was fine while the output was not, I also replaced the brushes before looking at the trigger which did not help of coarse.. Is there some other thing I can do or do I need to peplace the whole trigger?

Sounds like the trigger needs to be replaced at this point. It might just make more economical sense to buy a new impact. But that btd141 was such a perfect impact. If you get an entry level Makita Impact, it will be much more power for sure than that btd141. Might be a time for an upgrade.

Hi Tundra, can i use WD40? I can’t find the product you recommended where i live.
@Spartacusse
@Spartacusse 3 жыл бұрын
WD40 has a contact cleaner version, if you use normal WD40 you risk creating a thin layer of oil on the rail contact potentiometer, effectively cutting contact all together. If you can't find contact cleaner, use alcohol, or anything that dries fast and doesn't corrode the electronics. If nothing is available, use water, dip the whole thing in water and work the trigger many times. Now if you use water, you can't just blow some compressed air and try it out in a few minutes, you'll have to leave it drying for 2-3 days. I've washed plenty of computer motherboards with water in my life, the trick it to let it fully dry before running electricity through it.

Hello tundra, I’ve been having problems with mine too , I replaced a few bits on it but mine starts and stops when it likes , one minute it’s fine the next it starts playing up , when I press the trigger it shakes kinda thing turns a little bit then stops , if you know how I could fix it that would be awesome, 🇬🇧

Check and see if your tool is under warranty. You have 3 years. Look for a 3 digit code near the serial number. Like this ##.#

So if it’s 18.5 for example, it was manufactured in May of 2018. And Makita will service it.
