Hi there, is the saw good enough to cut 25mm thick, 15cm wide plank in half to get two ~12mm pieces that are straight and can be glued together to get a 30cm wide plank in you know what I mean. Thanks
@Motocicleiros
@Motocicleiros 2 ай бұрын
@Bakanelli sure you mean a book match. The answer is yes. Just ensure that your machine is correctly set up (there are videos showing how to do this, and it's not any rocket science) and loaded with the correct blade. Never - ever - try to resaw with the thin 6mm blade as you just will screw the wood and get frustrated. Instead use preferably the wider 16mm blade that comes with it. In fact you can go OK with the 13mm too but the 16mm is specially designed for resawing so... Finally the most importantly, absolutely do NOT rush. Take your time and be patient. Don't try to go faster than 1mm per second, or even less, when resawing hard woods. Do not push your plank against the blade. Instead, let the blade do its job by barely touching the wood with the metal teeth without making any effort. You just have to conduct the plank forward gently till the end. Again, take your time. Maybe you will take 10 minutes to split a 30 cm plank? No problem, at the end you will have a great splitting. The problem when pushing is that if you do it so it may twist the blade and it will make the blade get out of the straight cut that you want. finally ensure to keep the wood always firmly pushed to the fence. Doing it, you will always get a perfect result. The only downside is that you will end up with those vertical saw marks all along the two halves so you will have to plane, scrap or sand it down. Not a big deal though. I am mentioning it because I already have seen very powerful bandsaws that can do the same job is a few seconds and they go so fast that it won't leave any mark in the wood, but such machines are so much expensive to worth have one in your home shop. I consider that the Makita LB1200F is today the best cost-benefit bandsaw for the hobbyist. But I am from Brazil and here we don't have a lot of options. Mostly we have several of those crappy desktop mini-bandsaws, then the Makita and then a Starrett that will cost like 3x more than the Makita and basically it's this. That's why I choose the Makita because this is the best machine that I can afford. If I couldn't I honestly would prefer NOT to have any bandsaw in my shop because I already had a couple of those cheap and small desktop ones and they really suck.

@@Motocicleiros thank you very much for the thorough reply! Since I don’t own a bandsaw or the table saw, do you think the table saw would be better for my purpose of resawing planks because it seems to me a lot faster? Thank you very much :)
@Motocicleiros
@Motocicleiros 2 ай бұрын
@@Bakanelli Well, if you don't have ANY saw and is looking forward to start equipping your shop, no doubt a table is the way to go. In fact I think it's the very first machine that any woodworker should get start with. Said that, a bandsaw shouldn't be on top of your priorities; and most important, you won't want to buy a band saw exclusively for resawing. A band saw is more suitable for intricated curved cuts and its ability for resawing is more like a bonus feature. For what you are in need a table saw can absolutely take care of the job. In fact, when I have to resaw (split planks) my first option is always my table saw. By the other hand you should keep in mind that in comparison a table saw is a too much more dangerous machine than a band saw and using it for resawing is a tricky task and I wouldn't advise a table saw absolute beginner starting doing such a task with one. You must be very used to operate this machine with regular tasks (ripping and crosscut) before trying to do some harder tasks as resawing wide planks. Also depending on the width of the plank you will want to use a jig. You said 15cm and it's not too much to cut without a jig and using the regular fence for who is experienced with a table saw but for a novice I think a jig is mandatory even for such a size. I don't know what type of work you do but it seems to me that your goal may be to split a plank and join it for making a guitar top. Also I don't know how much splits you have to do, if just one once in a while or several ones a day; but if you aren't in a massive production maybe it would be better to pay someone to do the job for you. IMO the cost-benefit would be way more worthy considering that beside the cost of a machine you still would have to deal with the learning curve (either for a table saw or a band saw). Furthermore keep in mind that no matter what saw you buy you probably will need a thicker planer (or a hand plane) - to not mention a stationary or strong hand sander - to mill off the defects of the faces of the split because it won't get out of the saw perfectly smooth; so more cost and more learning curve. I hope I have helped. Sorry if it seems that I am raining on your parade, but after to have taken some wrong roads in the woodworking world I know how frustrating the investment in machines can be. Nonetheless I would advise you to join to a good woodworking forum. I suggest www.woodworkingtalk.com/ there are tons of VERY experienced people there eager to help (I am part of the community myself - look for *yankleber*) and I have learned a LOT form their experience and advices! Good luck!

You need to adjust your upper and lower guides , they are too far forward. They should be aligned with the gullet of the blade tooth. Other wise you will destroy your blade very quickly.
