in the log test, when you put the screws so close together the second tool always is in a disadvantage, instead of displacing and compresing wood around it' it now has to deal with a metal screw' i think its somthing to consider.

Agreed. Plus the exterior of the socket has to deal with extra friction from metal on metal. It may not matter too much but it definitely could be enough to stop the makita. I would have retested.

When you put a screw into the wood and then put another right by it the wood is actually more dense for screw number 2. You should put some more space between the screws. Love your videos though 👌

Nice flex drill . But when I can pick that particular Makita up for 95 dollars at Hd with the hack, it helps soothe the pain of the flex being faster . Fun testing as always
@willng34
@willng34 3 жыл бұрын
It isn't always about which being the most powerful, I also picked the XPH14 for $93 and it immediately replaced my dewalt 996. It is much nicer to hold and the trigger is super smooth, the mechanical clutch is night and day vs the dewalt. 99% of the time I don't even need the full power of the drill, people like to think that a job is done faster with more powerful equipment, but in reality it's what makes the operator work more efficiently that matters.
@willng34
@willng34 3 жыл бұрын
Makitas aren't about raw power. If you need to constantly push your tools to the limit then you're using the wrong tool. The XPH14 is impressive for its size and a real joy to use, before that I used and abused a dewalt 996 and it was a beast with the 8ah battery, but it was tiring to hold for extended periods and it had about 1" extra length compared to the makita. Same applies for their impact driver, no one praises for the XDT14/16 for the power but somehow it's everybody's favorite when it comes to real world use.

My exact thoughts, love the Makita xdt16, and xph14. Compared to others light, and comfortable. Don't even get me started on their xdt16, amazing ergonomics, and balance.

When you need to get the job done, pushing your tool to the limit is sometimes required. So in essence, when you need to get the job done .... Don't buy junkita!!!! It will always leave you with regrets. Then again, Makita fans always make excuses. Just so you remember, the Ryobi put the 6" lag in. But the junkita failed 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Makita is and always has manufactured reliable tools that work flawlessly for years, they have more than enough power to get the job done and that’s what matters to me. The reason Makita tools cut out quicker than others is due to Makita’s overload protection, not everyone appreciates this until their overdriven tools fail at the worst time. Also in my opinion Makita’s ergonomics is far superior to other manufacturers especially FLEX.

Seriously man, a 10 years old would test those tools better. For the start the Makita goes on a disadvantage due to it beeing 6V less (one less 18650 battery in series). Then you put used accessories on it after the flex uses them... Then you put the screws almost into each other, so close that the screw heads touch each other and when the socket touches the 1st screw normally it stops. The 2nd screw also can't push wood on one side due to the 1st screw.... I also saw a movie of yours of a makita vs Milwaukee,... There you literally didn't crew the chuck right for the makita EVERY time (the 481 model). I am not a makita fan expecially but when i want to buy a tool a do a lot of research online. To me it looks like you're deliberately sabotaging a brand (Makita)...

This video shows how close they are in terms of performance. The masonry drilling was the only task where the Fkex handily outperformed the Makita (I don't count the holesaw test because the Makita didn't slow down; the smoking wood clearly shows that the hole saw was dull).

Eh, I'll still run my Makitas, I beat the hell out of them and they last, and they make me $$$. There's just not enough of a lineup with the flex tools yet, I could outfit a whole crew with Makita doing ground up construction and wouldn't need to buy any other brands. I could care less if the flex can drive a lag bolt a half a second faster. Fun video though, the flex does seem to be a very well built tool! We'll just have to see if they stand the test of time.

Flex has the worse battery, I picked up just today the Flex drill with turbo, I am a Dewalt guy but thought I'd give them a try after seeing it on all the channels, the hard case love it, but when I opened it I discovered that both the batteries had leaked now I've heard that they do at times but thought it was weird they did without even being used, I wiped them off proceeded to charge them and found that black goo on the charger after. So I packed it all back up and returning it tomorrow the Flex Battery platform is a disgrace in my opinion and will not be purchasing a Flex again

After seeing your custom impact wrench, I came up with a bunch of new ideas for custom power tools; - a hybrid Electric+Air tool, using compressed air and a battery at the same time - a cordless tool that can run directly from the wall while the battery is still charging (whether or not the battery is actually in there, or charging somewhere else) - a pair of wire/bolt cutters with a hydraulic lever, a la hydraulic bike brakes (not really a power tool) - a pair of wire/bolt cutters where the blades are connected to an ultrasonic transducer - a pair of wire/bolt cutters with a right-angled handle so that you can hold it in a more ergonomic position (again, not really a power tool) - sawblades with a sandpaper or file surface (more of a part then an entire tool) - a gas/electric hybrid lawnmower - a lawnmower with a hydraulic starter cable so that it is much easier to get it started (some lawnmowers are extremely stubborn) - a ground effect lawnmower that sucks air (and grass blades) _into_ it, rather than blowing them away

Entertaining channel. However hearing "Right here is good. Alright so, ready? Go!" every single time a hole is drilled is completely unnecessary since there's a timer on screen and therefore it becomes just annoying by end of the video to be hearing again and again the same thing. And this goes for every video in this channel. Editing off those parts would make the videos shorter and therefore more pleasant for the viewers, meaning more views for the channel.

Btw Makita updated the drill just on time for these new competitions, it showed a good result I like it though it's a bit less power than flex, but I guess most people don't care 3.4seconds or 4.1 when makes holes :)

Makita fan boys will be making excuses 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Every time Flex goes against Makita , it wins by big margins. Ryobi even beats Makita , for 1/164th the cost. 🤷 Makita needs to either revamp their entire line, or stop ripping people off by over charging for lesser tools. Makita has the XPS impact bits, which are worth every cent of the $1/bit they charge, but their tools are an embarrassment.

I'm not a Makia user, but I've seen a few tradesmen using them and needless to say most of those tools are beat up everyday and still working. They're also very ergonomic and that works miracles when using them for continuous periods. My FIL does carpentry and plumbing, he still has a 10 yr old black & white brushed Makita drill and impact driver, a 6 yr old Sawzall as well as a 1 yr old sub compact brushless impact. The only thing he's replaced are the batteries. I'd say Ryobi has proved fairly reliable over the years, not to mention it's gotten much more powerful and quicker than before. It still represents too much value for the $$$ But Flex? I've only seen a couple people with those and they look as shiny as the day they got them from Lowes, I guess they bought them for show rather than for real work. Jury is still out on Flex's reliability, I'd wait 5 years, then praise or condemn

Makita is a great tool brand and has been for decades, sure the quality may have dropped when manufacturing went primarily to China (which is also where Ryobi, Ridgid, DeWalt, Milwaukee, Kobalt, Craftsman, Bosch, Hitachi/Metabo HPT, Flex, and probably a dozen more are manufactured) but they don’t spend a ton of money on gimmicky R&D like most other brands, does that mean they superior, no but to bash them or hate on them with an ignorant reference is kinda dumb. I have a ton of tools from a lot of different manufacturers and as much as I would like for all of the strongest, fastest, and best tools to be from one offering, it’s about being realistic. And I’m not sure about the mathematics behind 1/164th the cost when a Ryobi brushless 1/2” hammer drill is $119 and a makita brushless 1/2” hammer drill is $149 which is roughly a 25% cost difference for a tool that is going to last twice as long. I mean possibly you are comparing prices in Antigua or something but that’s what my local HD shows. Perhaps your HD has Ryobi brushless 1/2” hammer drills for $.91, which is the 1/164 cost you are referring to.

There's not a chance, that I'll ever be convinced to waste another dollar on Makita junk. I've owned a few drills, saws and stuff, and they've all been terrible, horrible and poor excuses for tools. Had 6 batteries and from new they wouldn't last 30 minutes (no they weren't the 2 ah) .... No power, no quality and best of all, their customer service department basically told me that it's not their fault. Now this has been a few years ago, but the poor performance, horrible customer service, disgustingly overpriced junk that they sold me, will forever be in my brain. Had they offered to honor their warranty, maybe I'd think differently, but they will always remain the number one trash brand to me. Them XPS impact bits though, them are the 100% legit real deal!!! I've filled my bit sets with them, no more Milwaukee shockwave, no more dewilt , just Makita XPS bits. If only they could make tools like they make their bits, tougher than anything out there, durable, long lasting and insane quality.
