You inspire me from all the way across the globe. I woke up from my 4th major surgery in 18 months and decided I am a painter! So I needed help. Enter YOU. Please know that while I am housebound and in recovery, this is going to be how I heal. Your gift to me is too big to thank you for-but I will say it anyhow. THANK YOU FOR YOUR BEAUTIFUL ENERGY. This is life changing-not just helpful. ❤️

1. I have that pencil sharpener, love it. 2. The plastic glove was a trick we were taught in Art School. A cheap version of a "stay wet" palette is to use long flat Tupperware, with the lid as the "base" and wet paper towel. I have been able to keep mixed colors of Gauche this way for months (yes, you do need to periodically add more water. 6. Never heard of the Daniel Smith watercolor ground.....that looks interesting! . The sheets of canvas, as opposed to those we stretch over frames, looks like fun. Thanks for sharing! ❤

Another tip for acrylic/oil paintings that won't set you back as much as buying a canvas: Go to a construction store. Find some MDF board, preferably not too thick (last time I got 8mm thick and it's heavy AF). Ask them to cut it for you in whatever sizes you need (I usually pick sizes that fit in Ikea frames cus it's easier to hang them or sell them afterwards, when you can tell people they don't need to get the thing professionally framed). Buy gesso in the art store. If you get acrylic gesso the bonus of that is you can add acrylic paint to it to tint it. I just buy black gesso cus I love painting on black. A large tub is a bit expensive BUT I used a 1liter tub to cover 10 50/70cm boards, each with three layers of gesso, so I'd say it's worth it. If you want to add texture to the board (I prefer mine smooth) just get some sandpaper and go over the gesso, or apply the gesso with a kitchen sponge so it dries a bit textured.

#makoficationsquad newbie! I soak my acrylic palettes after they dry and the dried paint comes off in big splotches that are fun to play with. :D I enjoy watching your videos because your voice is so happy.

I made my own stay wet palette using an air tight food storage container, paper towel and wax paper. I just cut a piece of paper towel to the size I need and place it at the bottom of the container. Then I spritz it with water put the cut wax paper on top. I put the paints I want on the wax paper. When I am done I put the lid on making sure its all tight until I am ready to paint again. Works great and saves a lot of money.

For the paint pallet hack, you can also get a really cheap piece of tile from Home Depot or some other store like that and it also works super well! My tiles only costed like one dollar. You can also put hot glue on the bottom of them so it doesn’t scratch your desk or whatever surface you are using!

I use a heavy glass platter from an old microwave as a palette. It is safety glass so if it breaks, it ends up as little chunks instead of long sharp shards. For dried acrylic paint it helps to soak in water to loosen paint before scraping. You may have to soak for several hours or even overnight.
