It's because of the shutter speed and frames per second of the recording camera
@chiragmidha2878
@chiragmidha2878 Жыл бұрын
It's because of the camera, I am not exactly sure if shutter speed has anything to do with or not but images in camera are scanned from top to bottom and left to right, one pixel at a time. That's why the string is at different positions when the image is scanned for every frame and it looks like a wave. You might not see the same effect on your camera because I think these videos have specific camera settings for these waves to happen.
@larrypicard5969
@larrypicard5969 Жыл бұрын
The camera does work the same as the human eye. I believe what you are seeing in the strings is due to stroboscopic effects. These stroboscopic effects are showing standing waves on the strings. The effect is certainly interesting and dramatic. However, it might have been unintentional. The phenomenon is an artifact.
@chiragmidha2878
@chiragmidha2878 Жыл бұрын
@@larrypicard5969 no man I am sure, I know what standing waves are. That's not it. When you do a harmonics on guitar that's when you get a standing wave, this is because of scanning the image from top to bottom. Also a camera and our eye does not work the same way 😅😅.

@Paul Gratton It's proved by time but it's true that the double appearance of waves/particle is true only for electromagnetic fields, so that the light i.e., or all the spectrum from gamma rays to radio waves. Photon is the particle that appears under certain circumstances, so that ALL the matter can show a double reality, depending on how its properties are measured. Waves/particle. For which concern other waves, such as the sound one (from music to earthquakes) that's just waves, energy transport under form of apparent periodic movement.

This is one of the songs that moves and inspires me. Moving to Argentina at 10 years old (expat of 1965)... I was exposed to this insanely beautiful song! It changed my life. the most reasonable reason is the video was edited that way, why? because these strings would be violating the laws of physics because it had to have details of the trajectories notice 2:42 pause and see

No I just wanted to know if the strings he was using were a different tension or something.
@JimC
@JimC 10 жыл бұрын
Anton-Michael England The earlier comment of P A N I C is close. No different tension is needed. First, the "freezing" effect is because the frequency of each string is close to a multiple of the video camera's frame rate. You'd see a similar thing with a strobe light. Second, the video camera may be using a "traveling" shutter, i.e., the shutter is a horizontal slit that travels down, i.e. scans vertically. This exposes each part of the scene for a total of 1/(frame rate), but it takes longer than that to travel down. If you can find a CRT tv or monitor, take a string and hold it vertically between your hands and between you and the CRT. Now pluck the string with a free finger. Change how hard you pull the string, and you will see similar effects. The image on a CRT is "painted" line by line from top to bottom at its frame rate.

Speaking of which... my favourite Rock music tended to be the songs with a distinct ‘Spanish’ lineage, more so than the blues. Hotel California being the most notable example. For that matter, though I’m no great fan of Madonna, I do quite like that song Isla Bonita (or whatever it’s called). If I’m not stretching the theme too far, could that include Paint It Black? Even Angie, particularly the live version from Steel Wheels tour, leans that way. Maybe Time Waits For No One. Sister Morphine. Led Zeppelin. Babe I’m Gonna Leave You. Seems to me that Since I’ve Been Loving You is an obvious slow blues but with some untypical chord changes that have that ‘Spanish’ feel, also Tea For One and Down In The Hole by Rolling Stones. Spanish Caravan. The Doors Innuendo. Queen And doubtless many more that don’t come to mind right now.

Holy moly, I found it. These crazy shapes that the guitar string seemingly takes on is caused by the rolling shutter effect of the iPhone’s camera (when digital camera’s take a picture they actually scan over a frame either vertically or horizontally. Basically, not all parts of an image are recorded at exactly same time and some parts are left playing catch up.) It's the cameras shutter speed.
@Ravaxr
@Ravaxr 8 жыл бұрын
+Angelo Amorim David almost had it. It's called a rolling shutter. The camera quickly scans each line of pixels from one side to the other, then moves down one. It scans the entire frame in about 1/30th of a second. If you have something moving back and forth very fast, like a guitar string or an airplane propeller, it gets this odd, wavy distortion effect that is not what the eye sees in reality, but can be very interesting when seen in the camera. The strings are completely normal, and look like any other guitar to anyone at this performance, but the way the camera works means that it gets lots of waves in the camera's output. The reason why it does this is because between the time each pixel is scanned along the length of the string (particularly if the string is at an angle to the sensor), the string moves. It may only be a few hundredths of a second or less from one line to the next, but when you have a string vibrating at 200-1000Hz, it does move enough to be detected. And because it is a fairly regular vibration, it forms a smooth wave. If you have something called a global shutter, the string looks much more normal, because the entire frame of the sensor is captured all at once. These sensors are more expensive since they need to have specialized memory to buffer the signal, and needs to be written to with an entire frame's worth of pixels almost instantly. Rolling shutters are less expensive since they don't need this memory (The scan can go straight out to a processor, no buffer needed), and can be much smaller. And for most uses, rolling shutters work, and there is little point in using a global shutter.
@VanillaSnake21
@VanillaSnake21 8 жыл бұрын
+Ravaxr actually david had it completely right, camera doesn't "scan" anything, the imagine is captured on a matrix chip simultaneously, all the pixels at once. The reason we see the strings behave like that is because the shutter speed is set to a harmonic of the wavelength, so the camera is shooting at a multiple of the frequency of the oscillation of the sting. What we are seeing a re standing sine waves that are directly related to the actual frequency the note is being played at.

Keith Richards brought me here.... His grandfather 'teased' the young Richards with a guitar that was on a shelf that Richards couldn't reach at the time. Finally, Dupree told Richards that if Richards could reach the guitar, he could have it.[6] Richards then devised all manner of ways of reaching the guitar, including putting books and cushions on a chair, until finally getting hold of the instrument, after which his grandfather taught him the rudiments of Richards's first tune, *Malagueña* [6] He worked on the number 'like mad', and then his grandfather let him keep the guitar, which he called 'the prize of the century'.
